"Good choice if you don't need full computer power" on by tennisbrotha69
Pros: Size, weight, asus motherboard, battery life
Cons: It's a netbook. Horrible for any kind of editing, only 2GB max RAM, slow processor compared to full notebooks, hassle to replace hard drive, top heavy
Summary: Let it be known before you read this review that I am very partial against netbooks for the most part, I find them more of a liability. I honestly dont find it worth it to decrease performance this much just for a couple of inches less. But I'll try to be as impartial as possible :) so here goes:
Again, it's a netbook. If you need a super-portable computer that will be used pretty much only for web browsing and word processing, this is perfect. But then again, so is an iPhone or any Android phone, both of which cost less and are much more portable.
However, compared to other netbooks, this is a great choice. $399 for an entry level netbook is a bit pricey, but completely worth it. Asus makes great durable motherboards and the design is far from cheap. While customer service is less than stellar, it will probably not be necessary.
There were only 3 problems I found while working with it. One is not quite a dealbreaker, but the keyboard is actually held stable by a strip of tape. This isn't a problem if you never remove the keyboard. However, if you do remove the keyboard for whatever reason, the tape will no longer stick and the top right corner of the keyboard will be pretty much in the air. I tried using tape to stick it back, but it will not stick well enough to keep it there for extended periods of time.
The other problem will be an issue for anyone who wishes to upgrade their hard drive. You have to open the laptop completely to get to the hard drive. I had to get literally 6 screws away from the processor in order to remove the hard drive. Oh by the way this also voids the warranty, so if it turns out that the hard drive wasn't the issue you can't send it in to Asus to get checked. On the bright side, who cares, it's not like Asus customer service was gonna do anything anyway!
The third problem is the most important one for mainstream users: it is top heavy. You put it on your lap, take your hands off of it for a second to grab something, and next thing you know you're scrambling for your life, or rather youre eee pc's life, to stop it from falling. I'm not sure if this is the case for the average netbook, I've only ever used 2 (this and a dell mini), but I found it to be a comfort issue when using it.
In terms of performance, it does what it's supposed to: you can take it anywhere you want, and you can depend on it to work. Its battery life is outstanding, to the point where you'll find yourself working for hours without realizing it isn't plugged in.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend this over any other netbook, but not over, well, any 12 inch notebook. Great choice if you travel substantially and need a lightweight computer to travel with you, but definitely not what you want to have as your primary computer. -
"Great travel companion" on by rjzwart
Pros: Light, (relative) fast netbook, good design. Best option is the double switch on keys: one starting it as an internetmachine, the other as a full pc.
Cons: Keys somewhat small
Summary: Would buy it again

"DO NOT buy an Asus. Customer service is a nightmare!" on by smy67
Pros: good speed
Cons: hardware is not dependable and customer service is terrible, very unprofessional and never resolve anything.
Summary: DO NOT BUY AN ASUS! I made the mistake of buying an Asus and now the company won't fix it even though it's still under warranty! Each time I call customer service, an agent tells me a different story. It feels like they are coming up with excuses to delay me from sending in my computer for repair. First it was a problem with the email account they asked me to send it to, then they tell me that email account does not even exist, and now they are telling me their system is down for repair...I have already waited 10 days for them to verify my warranty so that I can send my computer in!!! Asus is horrible! Do not buy!

"Worst Customer Service Experience Ever" on by yeknomdude
Pros: Decent product at an affordable price
Cons: Unfortunately the fact that they make a decent product at an affordable price is far outweighed by their terrible customer service! Do not expect to get any help from ASUS once you have purchased their product be it customer service, technical support, o
Summary: TERRIBLE customer service, one of the worst I have ever dealt with!!!
Their technical support know nothing about windows or even their own products! You will have more luck with online forums!

"Excellent netbook" on by nick_Auckland
Pros: Great little netbook; 'instant on' internet (10-15 seconds); great battery life; nice non-glossy carbon-fibre style lid cover. Bought as a travel pc but now use it for 90% of my computing, the full size laptop has been resigned to the home office.
Cons: I don't like the fact that the volume control needs you to hold down two keys (Fn+F11 or F12). Volume is so often used, why not make it one key?
Summary: I use this netbook daily and it meets 90% of my needs. Fine for emails, video, Skype, in fact the only thing I don't use it for is working on larger spreadsheets and gaming. Recommended. Oh, and don't be put off by the Asus customer service complaints above. There is an excellent user forum at eeeuser.com which has all the information you will ever need on every eee model. Great community of users.
