"Good choice if you don't need full computer power" on by tennisbrotha69

Pros: Size, weight, asus motherboard, battery life

Cons: It's a netbook. Horrible for any kind of editing, only 2GB max RAM, slow processor compared to full notebooks, hassle to replace hard drive, top heavy

Summary: Let it be known before you read this review that I am very partial against netbooks for the most part, I find them more of a liability. I honestly dont find it worth it to decrease performance this much just for a couple of inches less. But I'll try to be as impartial as possible :) so here goes:

Again, it's a netbook. If you need a super-portable computer that will be used pretty much only for web browsing and word processing, this is perfect. But then again, so is an iPhone or any Android phone, both of which cost less and are much more portable.

However, compared to other netbooks, this is a great choice. $399 for an entry level netbook is a bit pricey, but completely worth it. Asus makes great durable motherboards and the design is far from cheap. While customer service is less than stellar, it will probably not be necessary.
There were only 3 problems I found while working with it. One is not quite a dealbreaker, but the keyboard is actually held stable by a strip of tape. This isn't a problem if you never remove the keyboard. However, if you do remove the keyboard for whatever reason, the tape will no longer stick and the top right corner of the keyboard will be pretty much in the air. I tried using tape to stick it back, but it will not stick well enough to keep it there for extended periods of time.
The other problem will be an issue for anyone who wishes to upgrade their hard drive. You have to open the laptop completely to get to the hard drive. I had to get literally 6 screws away from the processor in order to remove the hard drive. Oh by the way this also voids the warranty, so if it turns out that the hard drive wasn't the issue you can't send it in to Asus to get checked. On the bright side, who cares, it's not like Asus customer service was gonna do anything anyway!
The third problem is the most important one for mainstream users: it is top heavy. You put it on your lap, take your hands off of it for a second to grab something, and next thing you know you're scrambling for your life, or rather youre eee pc's life, to stop it from falling. I'm not sure if this is the case for the average netbook, I've only ever used 2 (this and a dell mini), but I found it to be a comfort issue when using it.

In terms of performance, it does what it's supposed to: you can take it anywhere you want, and you can depend on it to work. Its battery life is outstanding, to the point where you'll find yourself working for hours without realizing it isn't plugged in.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend this over any other netbook, but not over, well, any 12 inch notebook. Great choice if you travel substantially and need a lightweight computer to travel with you, but definitely not what you want to have as your primary computer.
