"Customer service killed a potentially good computer" on by starjazz1

Pros: Size is great, speed is good, hard drive is substantial, aesthetics, display/monitor, USB ports, HDMI output.

Cons: Customer service/tech support is AWFUL, touchpad buttons and quirky features that happen unintentionally, power plug connection size, battery is good but not great, navigating the ASUS website is a nightmare as well.

Summary: I've read other reviews of products and companies that berade customer service, and said to myself, "well, hopefully it won't matter." In my case it did. I haven't seen my computer in over a month, been getting repaired for a faulty power plug unit on the motherboard. I guess they had to order the part from Taiwan which takes a while what with the ocean and all, but at least let me talk to someone in this country to find out when I might see it back. The power plug connection was so small, that the little metal pin broke off, render the computer useles.

I really liked it when I had it, good speed, functionality, price, size, looks, hard drive space, etc., but the customer service issue is such, that I'll never buy from ASUS again. Sad, because they appear to have a good product on the surface.

"Worst computers ever made" on by freefall03

Pros: I can't think of any pros to owning an Asus computer

Cons: No support, Asus doesn't back up their warranty.

Summary: . I bought an Asus and it was bad right out of the box, so I took it back, got a replacement and it was bad right out of the box as well. Asus refuses to replace it or do any type of support other than suggest I buy a new hard drive even though it is under warranty or buy a new Asus computer. I will never buy or recommend the Asus product line of computers to anyone. I highly discourage buying such a disappointing product line unless they greatly improve the product and their support of their products.

"Very flimsy power adapter jack--" on by trey68

Pros: Nice computer, but you can't use it because you can't charge the battery.

Cons: From reading on line, the power jack failure seems to be rampant. What's worse is everyone says it takes a full month to get repaired! And Asus makes you pay for shipping to fix their crappy design.

"Great lightweight notebook with graphics" on by misterb13

Pros: You actually have a screen unlike a netbook that displays the full web page. Battery life is excellent. Lightweight, you can hold it in one hand. If you travel a lot this one is great for schlepping through airports, business meetings, and security.

Cons: Touchpad is cheap. tracking is a little off, I use an external mouse if doing a lot of work. Have not had the power cord problems mentioned. Cord is lightweight compared to others.

Summary: I carry this laptop and an IPAD and they are both still less weight than a typical 13" to 16" laptop with power cord. Great screen and graphics for a $500 laptop. Speed is fine for Microsoft Office type programs. Exterior case is not prone to scratching like others. No problems after 5 months of use. I figure if you get 2 years use out of a $500.00 laptop you are still ahead of the game compared to others.
