"Best value for money and a great mobile gaming PC"5.0 starson by iyunzusto
Pros: + gaming worthy
+ effortless multitasking
+ decent screen except in direct sunlight
+ great touchpad and solid keyboard
+ slim and light (for a guy)
+ best bang for your buck
+ boots up in 30 seconds
Cons: - build quality could be better (but considering it would increase price, could be a +ve)
- hard to open case apparently, but I don't care
- must remove bloatware
- requires ongoing maintenance, unlike Apple
I wanted a mobile gaming platform that was old-school but packed a punch. I wanted something that could play Baldur's Gate, but also Mass Effect. If you are a PC lover and like gaming, this beauty will satisfy on many levels. The battery life ranges from 2.5 hrs (3D gaming) to 4.5 hrs (high brightness browsing) to 6 hrs (low brightness browsing). I've played and enjoyed games like Baldur's Gate 2, Serious Sam, Half Life 2, Galactic Civilizations 2, Eve Online, Age of Wonders 2. I have planned a European trip with multiple browser windows open, along with MS Word, while downloading music and with a game in the background. I've never had an issue with RAM chugging. This is the perfect mobile device for a PC/Microsoft nerd. I shopped around for at least 10 hours to find the perfect netbook/laptop and this is what I decided on, and have been 100% happy with the decision.
Apple lovers have their work ahead of them. You need to remove the bloatware (a couple of hours research if you don't know what you're doing), plus it's heavier than the typical netbook. If you just want a nice mobile browsing experience, consider an iPad. But for the same price you can get this dual core beauty with ION graphics that is surprisingly powerful. While you can play many 3D games, expect to turn everything down to minimum to increase the frame rate. But honestly, who gives a **** about frame rate when you can play Half Life 2 at an airport while people around you are trying to contain their children and struggling to find somewhere to take a dump. Be aware also that if you want to game in 3D for more than a couple of hours, you'll need a second battery which will cost another $60.
