"C-net reviews fail again." on by JackTheCrow
Pros: one of the best over all preformance laptops available @ 15.4' screen as of this moment.
Cons: obviously will not compete with 17" models.
Summary: This is not a criticism on the Asus G1 more so than it is a criticism of cnet reviews. I don't understand how they keep grading laptops based on superficial evidence instead of price/performance/capabilities in comparison to the products respected market. The G1 should only be compared to other laptops of similar builds as others have stated. Compare it to one of cnet's top mainstream laptops at 15.4", the velocity micro, and there's almost no mystery why many would prefer the G1. Since the g1 preforms better in 3d intensive tasks and is nearly 900$ cheaper.
But cnet negates this fact -- and this is not the only example. almost all their laptop reviews compare machines of different genres. Not all laptops should be compared to a dell XPS; and just because a system that costs 1700$ does not preform as well as another that costs nearly 3000$ does not mean it's scored as such.
That being said, if anyone wants to get real, uninhibited information regarding notebooks, just go to a site that gets down to the "nitty gritty" like www.notebookreview.com, or notebookforums.com -- Because c-net just seems like a tech-pop buzz-inducing site that lacks any kind of real depth. -
"CNET knows nothing about the G1" on by banana.wireless
Pros: Most powerful specs for a 15.4" laptop, 1.3MP camera, very good build quality, good price
Cons: It had to be ridiculed by CNET
Summary: CNET knows nothing about the Asus G1.
They gave this superior laptop a 6.9, while giving a Dell Inspiron E1505 7.0. How does a ugly, cheaply built, not-so-powerful laptop with horrible customer service compare to the Asus G1, with a NVIDIA GeForce 7700, 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and lots of extra features?
You can't compare this laptop to 17 inch gaming masters like Alienware and XPS. You can't MOVE those, with the G1 its a machine to you can carry around, while having lots of graphics power.
By the way CNET, I thought you guys were professional. Ummm...THATS A 15.4 INCH LAPTOP, NOT A 17 INCH. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, watch the video.
CNET needs more professional-ism. -
"What is Cnet Smoking" on by jmanjohns2
Pros: Light, very powerful for its size and price, good build quality
Cons: Not as powerful as notebooks that weigh 2X more and get 1/2 the battery life (if thats a con cnet)
Summary: First off, most of the info in this review is wrong. If my memory serves me correctly, the first version of the review said the G1 had an x1700, but it looks like they have finally changed that. This computer is not as fast a 17 inch machine, yes thats true, but it is faster than 95% of the laptops on the market and is the fastest computer in its weight class. It looks like it was designed with students in mind who actually might need to carry around their gaming pc (or at the very least, it appeals to a student like myself because I can game and use it everyday). If you buy this and say its too slow, than I really pity your standards. Great computer, great company, great price, great performance. Whats not to like?

"What is CNET thinking... this is one amazing machine" on by Jace888
Pros: The size, price, GPU power, and overall quality of the machine
Cons: Laptop can be slightly heavy
Summary: I know others have said this before me, but there is no denying it. CNET did not do an adequate review for this machine. There is no way that the Asus G1 could score a 6.9. The laptop is the only one in its size with a GeForce Go 7700 and priced below 2,000 dollars. All of CNET's comparisons are to 17in notebooks which obviously can have better video cards, because of the additional space. For a 15.4in notebook, there is no better GPU, even the ATI X1600 can't compete. Another issue with the review is that CNET completely missed the attention to detail which makes this notebook spectacular. The carbon fiber casing and palm rest, the OLED screen to display IM messages while you're gaming, and the backpack and logitech mouse that Asus gives you with the notebook are all details that no other notebook company even thinks about. To say that the G1 is "blah" is a ridiculous and CNET needs to reconsider this review, as seen by all the remarks made so far.

"G1 is a fantastic machine, CNET needs to re-consider." on by ancadre
Pros: Superior design, very powerful specs for a 15.4 inch notebook, reasonable price. Innovative "Messenger" display.
Cons: Kind of heavy.
Summary: CNET gives this machine a 6.9? The Asus G1 has a superior design, built in 1.3 Megapixel camera, very powerful specifications for a 15.4 inch gaming notebook, and its price is just right.
Tell me, where else can you find a 15.4 inch notebook with the same power? Don't compare this to 17 inch notebooks, because even CNET admits they're different categories.
I don't get how this great machine can get 6.9 out of 10, and the crappy Dell Inspiron E1505 can get 7.0.
