"Awesome power, fast graphics and a cool look!" on by andyd_
Pros: Very clear and bright screen in 2D mode
Awesomely fast and responsive
IMHO a really good laptop for general purpose computing + software development + gamingCons: Battery life is short in Windows mode.
A little on the heavy side if you are travelling a lot.
Cannot play Blu Ray movies without buying a player, such as Power DVD.Summary: Only had mine about 3-4 weeks, but it has transformed my MMORPG experiences! My previous laptop was not up to it running at 7fps in a reasonable good quality mode on STO, which improved to about 20 fps with lower graphics quality settings. The G51J is handling max quality on graphics settings at a respectable 60 fps!
The 3D works well generally, and is impressive with even some of the older games I have. They don't have to be specially written for the 3D to work. One bug bare is that sometime I seem to not be able to get the 3D system to start correctly until I play around with the test app and driver settings, but that may be something I'm not doing correctly. The monitor seems generally darker under 3D than 2D mode, so you end up turning the brightness up a bit.
You cannot play Blue Ray movies out of the box, even when fitted with a drive capable for this purpose. You need to buy a software package, like PowerDVD to do this.
Mine came with 8GB RAM and a 640GB SATA H/D and Win 7 64bit.
Battery lasts between 2 and 3 hours max, Not a big deal for me as I don't intend travelling a lot with it, but otherwise it could be a problem.
Overall I am very happy with it and hope it will serve me well for a few years to come. -
