"Unfortunately this gaming laptop can't play games." on by Inspite
Pros: How do they sell this much performance for this price.
Cons: After the graphics card hits 82 degrees Celsius, it slows down to a crawl. I get about 2 fps in the game Crysis. It takes 10 minutes for this to happen.
Summary: The best mobile graphics card (260m). Six gigs of Ram. Big hard drive (500 Gig). Good processor (2.53). And it looks great too!
I just flashed with the beta bios. The problem has been fixed. I will now recommend this laptop to anybody. Asus made a mistake, but fixed it in a timely manor. Good job Asus!
Unfortunately you cannot play games with this gaming laptop until Asus fixes the problem. I am sure they are working hard on a solution, but this is a black eye for them.

"This thing is amazing" on by Fenix1186
Pros: For the price you can't beat it. One heck of a graphics card, 6 gigs of DDR2 (DDR3 would have been nice...), and a P8700 processor. It's nice to have a 1066 FSB instead of the 800.
Cons: Not really any. Short battery life but it's still better than 45 mins of my old Alienware desktop replacement.
Summary: Just amazing. With Asus you can't beat the bang for your buck and such high quality! I work a Best Buy and I recommend the brand to everyone for it's quality and good worth for your money.

"Perfect configuration for a affordable gaming laptop" on by jakeallan
Pros: Glossy finish make finger prints a problem
Cons: None that i think of.
Summary: The ASUS brand name attracted me to the laptop. I always choose ASUS motherboards, when building a desktop computer. The bios problem will solved next week.A common problem with any computer that uses a high end graphics card is heat. I have a 4yr old dell laptop with a high end graphics card. The laptop became so hot when I played Oblivion, it was burning my legs! The solution was simple, a laptop cooling fan was the answer. There wasn't any more heating issues. When I setup the Asus g71 an set it on my cooling fan, like i do with my dell , I set the resolution to
The pros of the laptop should read : Excellent configuration for value priced gaming laptop Asus brand name. A solid well build machine.
1440x900 set the antialising to 8 samples and set the anisotropic filtering to 8 samples also. and played Fallout 3 all day. ( at least 12 hours) There were no error messages and no heat problems at all.

"Great full featured, easy to upgrade laptop computer." on by C4RN1
Pros: 17 inch screen, large keyboard, plenty of power, hidden usb ports, blue and customizable multicolored leds.
Cons: Very large (will not fit standard laptop bags). Runs hot from the factory. Can not turn off ROG Led or the led under it. Standard keyboard (not backlit like the g51 keyboard). Can not service video card without full disassembly of the computer.
Summary: I bought this computer broken (overheating). I took it apart and cleaned the cpu and reapplied thermal compound (arctic silver 5). The computer would run fine for awhile but still overheated due to the graphics card (160-180F). Cleaned the card and heatsinks and reapplied thermal compound and threw it back together. Now my temps idle at about 120-130F on the gpu. I ran the computer with the stock dual core that was in it for a few months, then upgraded the laptop to 12gb of ram and an q9100 quad core processor. I have a 60gb ssd as the main drive and a 1tb drive as the secondary drive. This is the fastest computer i've ever had and i don't say that lightly (i own a computer store). When i took the computer apart i saw that there were leds mounted in the front corners but didn't have access to them in either the bios or any software. I bought this computer without a hard drive for about $350, luckily asus has the direct console utility on their website which controls the functions of the leds in the font of the computer and on the sides of the screen. I took apart my screen to fix the issue where you can see the leds from the back through the screen (foil tape blocks the light). My only other gripe is the keyboard. I was sure it was backlit when i looked at it, but sadly it's not. It can't be switched with one from a g72 either. All in all it's a great laptop if you get it professionally cleaned by someone who knows what they're doing, if not then you're probably in for a sad world of motherboard failures due to heat and lead free solder.....
As for one of the reviews that complains about the rog logo splash screen noise, you can mute that in the bios. Press f2, go to boot, boot settings configuration, logo sound volume. Press enter and select mute. It's that simple.
