"Beautiful... But No Blu-Ray"
Pros: Top of the line...
Cons: 1080p without the player... What is the logic?
Summary: I usually live and die by the reviews on Cnet and more often than not they are right on the money but in this case they were way off the mark. I purchased this laptop and opened the package like a 5 year old on Christmas morning! The machine is beautiful. I immediately upgraded the operating system to the 64-bit version of Vista Home. The ASUS recovery CD with all of their drivers and in house programs worked without flaw although they are clearly labeled 32-bit support only. Wonderful! I start testing everything out to ensure it all works when I get to the optical drive. I loaded up a Blu-ray movie... NOTHING. I tested several to include some early releases in case it may be a Firmware problem. NOTHING! So I contacted ASUS directly and they verified that none of their `M` series laptops include Blu-ray optical drives. How in God`s name could Cnet be so off the mark on this one! Don`t get me wrong... I`m still happy with the purchase. Its an incredible machine and you surely get your money´s worth. I purchased mine from newEgg and had a great experience but one of the main reasons I made the purchase was the prospect of being able to watch my Blu-ray movies while travelling in 1080p on my laptop (I travel for work a lot. I`m writing this from Brazil... rough life, eh?). Very disappointed in Cnet. I`ll be reading their reviews with a lot more scepticism from now on. You guys really whiffed on this one...
