"The Citroen SM of laptops - looks great, junk engine" on by Klein922
Pros: Nice computer with some great options. Comfortable keyboard, stylish, sleek, hyper modern.
Cons: This thing has 4g of RAM and 512 dedicated memory on the video card... and a 1.4 ghz processor? It's like putting a lawnmower engine in a Formula 1 race car.
Summary: Better yet, it's like the Citroen SM - super sleek, lovely, cool. Shame about the junk, poorly modified Maserati engine they shoe-horned into that bomb. This computer SHOULD be able to game - that is in fact what I was sold on by the good folks at Best Buy. "My gamer friends really like Asus notebooks and this one is a great value - you'll totally be able to use it. It won't hang up or be choppy at all". Um, it's choppy as hell. I can barely play actually. I'm not sure if Vista is to blame, but a 1.4 ghz processor is a joke no matter what. The extra RAM and video firepower don't really matter when the CPU is this weak. I'm going to try to see if there is any workaround that might make it dealable until I can get an upgraded duo core into it, but I might also just bring it back and try again. For this money, it should have a great processor.

"Asus products are garbage." on by NichelleAdair
Pros: Research - read reviews - dont purchase before
Cons: Customer service. Ethical business
Summary: If you happen to get a faulty product, which sometimes happens even with the best manufacturers, You will be completely let down. They have the worst customer service on the planet. I had my hard drive crash in my brand new laptop - after 34 days. After 20 calls, I finally gave up and sent the computer in for repairs. I work full time in advertising on the internet, as well as being a multimedia student - a computer is essential. Can't Go Wrong With Asus! - Totally not the case. You will be very very upset and sorry if you ever need any customer care, repairs, or even compensation from them. They have no problem taking you hard earned money, however you are pretty much on your own if you ever need assistance from them in any way. Every customer care rep will no doubt contradict all the other ones, Not ONE rep has told me the same as the other 15 or so I have talked to. Don't buy Asus. Go Somewhere else.

"SERIOUSLY WORST LAPTOP I'VE EVER OWNED! PIECE OF CRAP!" on by ALYCHA
Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: Too heavy & bulky.
Not made well; motherboard, hard drive & battery were bad within a year!
Asus also has VERY poor customer service!Summary: I bought my ASUS UX50V at Bestbuy in June of 2009. By the same time the next year, the motherboard, hard drive and battery were all shot. I took the laptop to Bestbuy, who told me it would need to be sent directly to the company since it was still under their warranty. ASUS, of course argued with me that it had been over a year and after going back and forth with them for a few weeks, I had to fax my receipt over to them to prove to them when the purchase date was. After sending everything (paperwork, charger, laptop, battery..EVERYTHING) back to them. They told me it was all fixed and sent it back. I receive the laptop back without the paperwork, without the charger and the battery was still not working! Therefore, I had a laptop that I couldn't even turn on and I was to start classes the next week and needed it. I made over 20 calls to the customer service line, without a resolution. I sent countless (over 15) emails to the company and each time got a reply stating if I didn't receive a resolution in 48 hours to email them again! I don't know how many times they expect you to email and call only to be put on hold for hours and then the line goes dead. I asked to speak to managers, headquarters, anyone in charge. I threatened to call the BBB and still never received a resolution. I ended up buying an off brand charger from ebay because I REFUSED to give their company any more of my time or money. I cannot explain to you how much their company SUCKS. I cannot believe the laptop went bad that quickly either. I lost so many photos and documents that were literally priceless. That year I had the laptop happened to be my senior year in high school AND I was diagnosed with cancer. The only pictures I had of myself going through chemo, losing my hair, going to prom, graduation day were ALL on that computer. Who would have thought I would need to back those photos up within the same year I bought the laptop. Just sad.

"Superb Laptop" on by afk777
Pros: Best-Looking computer I have seen in my entire life
Processor is actually a very appropriate choice for the expected audience
DVD playback
Excellent Display
Trackpad friction is overratedCons: Speakers take about a week to break in
Awful click / right click button
Windows 7 taskbar disappears after screensaver
FINGERPRINTSSummary: I have been relentlessly complimented on my UX50V. "That's the prettiest laptop I've ever seen!" Guy with a MacBook Air: "That thing is utterly gorgeous. What is it?"
However, the good looks, while likely the primary deciding factor for most buyers, is only skin-deep. Compared to my old computer, this thing is a beast. However, the faster boot-up times afforded by Windows 7 are comprimised by the slower, less powerful processor. When the OS is up and running, however, this thing is great. I use it mostly for Office Applications, web browsing, email, Skype, and photoshop. The UX50V performs all needed tasks beautifully and is a great buy because of its large amounts of storage and RAM.
The mouse button, however, is BAD. While not a huge problem (I click by tapping the trackpad), it can get annoying.
For the first week or so with this baby in my presence, I was dumbfounded by the awfulness of the speakers. However, after that week of iTunes and YouTube, I was able to pump my music up to volume and quality unachieved by other laptops I've had. NOTE: turn SRS Premuim Sound OFF.
Great buy!
