"Powerful computer, with a lot of bells and whistles." on by MotoAce51
Pros: Powerful processor, great video card, and fast!!! I cant complain about anything yet. The looks and performance are amazing. The screen is the clearest I have seen on a laptop.
Cons: The glossy apprearence shows a lot of fingerprints, the battery has a very short life, and the buttons on the top are difficult to see through the chrome.
Summary: I have been a HP person my whole life and finally decided to change my brand. I love it so far. I have to say I am happy I changed. I would have liked a 15.4" screen though. The graphic card was far superior to that of other computers in the same price range. The visual aesthetics are very eye pleasing as well. The animations are fun but can get annoying though. All in all it is very worth the price.

"Good specs for the price" on by f1-eagle
Pros: Small, portable, fast
Cons: I had to update the driver for the wireless card with a driver from Intel, the Asus one would drop the internet connection every 2 hours
Summary: Information on how to update the wireless driver can be found here: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&id=20090205000304518&board_id=3&model=X83Vb&page=2&count=17

"Great value with some minor flaws." on by Rorix08
Pros: -4GB of RAM
-Discrete Graphics Card
-Decent Processor
-Low Pricetag
-Lightweight.
-Sleek design.Cons: -Glossy surface is very prone to fingerprints
-DVD Drive tray poorly placed (easy to accidentally bump/open)
-No Bluetooth despite having an on/off switch for it
-Video card is low-end.
-Lacks dedicated media controls.Summary: Tthis laptop is a decent machine for a great price. It has some flaws that, if fixed, could have made this a much stronger contender in the consumer laptop market. It's overly-glossy finish attracts fingerprints very easily, which can be distracting. The video card, while discrete and certainly better than integrated graphics, is still on the lower end of the scale. Another problem lies within the placement for the optical drive tray. The tray extends to the bottom of the laptop, making it easy to bump your leg into it. While this may not be an annoyance to some, it does bring into question the longevity of the drive do to the constant bumping it will have to withstand.
However, for $615, it's hard to complain much. You still get a decent processor, 4GB of RAM, and a discrete graphics card. All of these lead to very respectable performance for a budget laptop. Also, the screen is bright and vibrant, and, although glossy, doesn't attract an obscene amount of glare. The unit is also pretty lightweight, which makes carrying it around a breeze.
Overall, this laptop was worth the price. It has some minor annoyances that don't break the deal, but if fixed, this laptop would be something pretty remarkable. As it stands, however, it is only good, not great. -
"Mediocre budget gaming laptop" on by bluthundr02
Pros: - It's cheap
- Asus laptops are generally pretty reliable
- 4gigs of ram (almost standard these days)Cons: - Graphics card is WEAK
- Processor could be a bit better
- For barely more, you can get MUCH better...Summary: If you have $150 extra, for $799 you can get the Asus X83vm instead. It comes with a 2.16ghz duo processor, also 4gb of ddr2 800mhz, and a 1 gb 9600 gs graphics card. For the budget range they listed above, they left out the cream of the crop.
The only other budget laptop you should even consider is the Gateway FX P-7805, but you're going to have to increase your expense by an additional $350. Outside of these two, you're going to have to pay a hefty sum for any considerable framerate gains.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a BUDGET gaming laptop, get the X83VM-X1 for $799 or FX P-7805 for $1150. Don't waste your money on this one... -
