"GREAT laptop but be careful" on by mikecab
Pros: Perfect size, loaded with goodies
Cons: not the most rugged laptops
Summary: The company i work for bought 2 of these models for 2 landscaping managers. These managers would take them out in the field and because the computer is so small and frail looking i was at first scared that they wouldnt last. employee number one took very good care of her laptop and to this day the thing runs flawlessly. employee number two however didnt seem to care for it as much. within a year the CD just stopped working. then i believe he dropped it and the LCD cracked. today the CPU fan stopped working.
The computers are about 2 years old now and what i draw from my experience is that its a very nice little computer but you have to be careful because it isnt the most rugged laptop.
I noticed something else... the computer that belonged to employee number 2 changed hands a few times. it belonged to 3 different employees and even with a cracked screen none of them wanted to give it up. even when replaced by a brand new dell laptop they were reluctant to part with it. it seemed to provoke a strange sense of loyalty.
The lptop is packed with goodies off the shelf though. it came with windows xp pro, 512mb of ram, 1.6mhz processor, a dvd burner, a secure didital reader, wireless lan, and a 60 gb harddrive...
i was so impressed by the loyalty and the goodies i bought a refurbished model for under 600 dollars...so far it is working flawlessly...
so overall i would say its a great laptop but be careful with it....it can break -
"Excellent machine for what it is" on by frosty2433
Pros: If your expectations are basic computing, you will love this machine
Cons: It gets a little warm after extended use.
Summary: I have owned one of these babies for over 4 years now and love it. When I bought this computer, I wasn't expecting to be able to play high end games or edit video. It has turned out to be highly resilient and a tough little machine.
One additional thing I have noticed is that I typically get better wireless conectivity than any of my friend's laptops do when we are somewhere connecting via WiFi.
A couple things to note in response to other reviews. 1. There is a large sticker on the factory RAM that states "Warranty Void if removed." 2. The mouse buttons do not scratch the screen, it does leave a little mark however that is easily wiped off.
If a basic machine is what you want, this one will last you a really long time. I recently upped the RAM to 1G and I expect to be using this computer for a few more years to come. -
"WARRANTY ISSUES!" on by mike1weaver
Pros: Cost effective
Cons: Void warranty by upgrading
Summary: We purchased a few of these laptops and then bought additional ram. We added the ram (which was manufacturer specs) and then had the on-board memory go bad. We tried to get warranty repair and was told the warranty was void because external ram was added.

"A perfect "10" in every way" on by Eddie Kwong
Pros: Can hold between my thumb and forefinger
Cons: Can't think of any.
Summary: I have to admit that I was concerned when I read some of the negative reviews in a number of message boards about reliability issues. But I spoke to them and did some research. My theory is that because Avertec is distributed by Walmart and number of other low-end consumer retail distributors that the average buyer of Averatec tends to be less tech savvy and more prone to botching the computer up themselves. I haven't had any problems.

"Great bang for the buck" on by lectronicjunkie
Pros: Cheap, has everything for 90% of your needs.
Cons: There is no perfect notebook
Summary: I like this brand. Not fancy but it has everything you need, including a good size, nice clear display, numerous ports and good battery life.
I wish that reviewers who compare it to other notebooks compare apples to apples. This thing is a good price without the headaches or problems in dealing with rebates. It will do pretty much anything you will need to do on a computer. Sure it won't play BF2 but come on, can you expect a notebook with the regular price of $650 to do all that.
