"Machine Quality Lacking - Customer Support terrible!" on by David Saylor
Pros: Like features and lightness
Cons: Poor touch pad sensitivity
Summary: I purchased an Averatec 4200 series laptop in June. I have two other Averatec products and have been quite satisified. This one has been nothing but problems. I have now returned it twice for the same problem (it shuts off suddenly or will not turn on). Presently I still don't have the unit back and during this bout with customer support (it does feel like a boxing match) they have managed to arrange for the slowest shipping (7days each way), lost the computer in their repair facility, and generally display a lack of concern for me the customer.
I would not buy another computer from this company. -
"a slow, flimsy 1.7mhz pentium laptop that's just the right size!" on by inkysocks
Pros: nice form factor. white. averatecs have high reliabilty in pcmag reader survey
Cons: slow, feels flimsy, tech support off the ball
Summary: i had high hopes for this thing after reading that Averatec got high reliability reviews in PCMag's 18th Annual Reader Satisfaction Survey, and the price point was competitive for the features offered.
i could also live with the cheap, flexible, easily marked and scratchable case, the DVD drive that dislodges itself, the battery that holds 10 minutes of charge, and the narrow horizontal viewing angle, if the thing were fast! but it works and operates like a 5 year old laptop despite a 1.7mhz processor.
nevertheless, the thing does operate, i have no wifi problems, and as long as there's a plug around, i can get work done, albeit more slowly than i'd like. but i recommend looking elsewhere. -
"Laptop not functioning properly" on by shortsmv
Pros: Perfect size, many functions, if everything would work it would be perfect.
Cons: Many problems tech support unable to resolve.
Summary: Wireless networking intermittent, S video port does not work at all, stuck pixel, DVD drawer has to be pried open.
In order to fix, I must pay for shipping, wait for at least 2 weeks (including shipping time, possibly more) then spend many hours of my time reloading and configuring.
I am dissapointed with Averatec. -
"Piece of S" on by donpavo02
Pros: not that expensive
Cons: The sound card sucks
Summary: Not that fast, the sound card would not play sounds for dvds... not worth it.. just buy a better brand that might be more expensive, save yourself the trouble

"Crashed after 4 weeks!" on by bubba202
Pros: lightweight, nice screen
Cons: Horrible touch pad, whimpy keyboard, terrible customer support
Summary: I read some reviews on this notebook and they looked decent. I was initially very frustrated with the touch pad - couldn't ever get it to work, finally had to disable it and buy a mouse.
I never got to try out the dvd burner because the whole thing crashed after 4 weeks, couldn't get it to boot up....dead. Now it's in the repair facility and nobody can give me a straight answer as to what's wrong. 5-7 days has now turned into multiple weeks. The customer service reps all sound like punks who got laid off from Abercrombe and Fitch...
Would not buy a computer from this company again..ever
