The mainstream HP Compaq Presario V2000 series has two offshoots: the V2000 line, which features Intel Pentium M and Celeron M processors and an Intel 855GME graphics chip, and the V2000Z line, which carries AMD Turion processors and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M graphics chip. Both lines are available through HP's Web site, other online resellers, and local computer stores.

Though the lines diverge at their CPUs and graphics engines, they share several other parts, including an average-size 14-inch wide-screen display with a standard 1,280x800 native resolution; a few optical-storage drive choices, such as DVD-ROM, DVD-ROM/CD-RW, and a sweet double-layer DVD burner; lots of hard drive sizes and speeds, ranging from 40GB to a massive 100GB; various 802.11b/g Wi-Fi cards; and Bluetooth. The V2000 configurations are especially cheap, but the system's slow scores in CNET Labs' benchmarks show that you get what you pay for.
