    "Terrible Laptop" on by js358

    Pros: Absolutely NOTHING

Cons: Keyboard is awful, battery life sucks, heavy

Summary: I have been looking for an excuse to write Dell off for good and this laptop is what put me over the top. I picked it up dirt cheap (feel sorry for those poor folks who paid full retail) hoping it would be a lite compact notebook to replace my Latitude. About the only good thing I have to say about the Adamo is it looks nice. Beyond that, this is absolutely the worst laptop I have ever owned.

First off, battery life is just plain terrible. 3 hrs if you're lucky just doing everyday word, email, internet. And that's with everything turned down. The keyboard on this piece of junk sucks. No other way to put it. It's not a chicklet style. The keys are all flush with very subdued labels. Looks really slick but the usability is horrible. First off, if you turn the back light down to conserve the pathetic battery, you can barely see the key labels in certain lighting conditions. But typing on this thing is the worst experience you ever want to have. There's no "feel" to the keys at all. I like a little spring to the keys and this has ZERO. And I don't know if it's because of this or the size of the keys or what but I miss so many letters when typing that it makes me want to scream. You think you hit the key and nothing. You have to really hit the keys very hard or you wind up with missed letters. Not sure if its just this particular keyboard or on all of them. I'd call support but that's an exercise in futility. Phone support people with English as a second language is unacceptable. I'm not being prejudice but if you need to call support, you're obviously having some problems and your frustration level is already elevated. Trying to decipher what the other person is saying just adds to it.

After this experience, I will no longer purchase another Dell Laptop as long as I live. I've been a Dell owner for over 15 years but this is it. They used to produce Top Notch gear and their support was outstanding but man has this all changed. I went out and replaced this piece of crap with an ASUS 13 inch laptop and couldn't be happier. Solid keyboard, 8+ hours battery life, very solid laptop,

    See ya DELL!

"Brilliant design, excellent performance." on by axel230

Pros: It is sleek, light, and has state-of-the art performance for a notebook.

Cons: Lots of little things haven't been thought out: location of USB ports, port replicators, battery performance and battery access.

Summary: Lightweight notebooks present special problem. How do you keep it light and slim and still have full functionality? The Adamo XPS comes as close as you're likely to find. It's closest competitor is the Sony Vaio Z. Both emulate the Airbook.

While the Adamo has ample performance, two USB ports, adequate RAM and a nice solid state hard drive, there are some niggling concerns. My Sprint device (U300) gets in the way of the USB ports. The lack of a decent port replicator is a concern. The battery access latch does not work. All these are things that result from a 4mm thin design parameter.

The tilt-up design is actually very nice and works well on airplane trays. Yes, with a little juggling you can actually work it on your lap. The keyboard and screen are the best I've ever seen on a notebook.

Is it worth it? Yes. But know that it's not perfect.

"Thin but wide. Build leaves something to be desired." on by lelandab

Pros: Undoubtedly this is a cool computer, and a conversation starter. I have had it for only a day, but already people at a meeting commented on how thin it was, and the placement of the hinge. I haven't seen the problems with the screen viewing angles.

Cons: For only a 13", the thing is really big - length and width as my 15" MacBook Pro. What is most disappointing though is the build quality. The battery is consistently sticking in the compartment and cause me to have to FORCE them out of their seats.

Summary: Buying this computer is definitely about being THIN. It is faster than netbooks, but bigger too. Once in use, it seems much like any other Windows 7 machine without any other surprises. For this price, Dell got the packaging right, but I would rather they had spent the time on making a machine that was as smooth as butter.

    Updated on Mar 10, 2010

Product is already discontinued by Dell. The battery compartment is a BIG design flaw, and probably a killer for this machine. Something this expensive shouldn't have so many problems with fit and finish. However, I have consistently had more problems with Dell machines than any other brand I've owned, so I don't know why I was expecting different this time.
