Pros: it's so basic, it's relatively easy to fix [i've learned a lot]

Worst computer ever
Pros: Good screen
Cons: poor battery life, battery runs hot, wireless does not work well, programs won't run right on it, small amount of memory
I just recently re-installed windows.... and it still takes at least 2 or more mins. to load! Now something with the charger doesn't work right and the battery doesn't charge right. It just keeps on going downhill.........

Good Dell for what I paid
Pros: Price, Battery life, durability
Cons: low celeron chip, Graphics, DVD performance.
I complained about the original battery that only lasted 1 hour and Dell replaced it w/ a l-ion one. I still use mine almost everyday-mostly for surfing the web, and word-but thats all I needed it for. The 1000 has been a rugged useful tool for me.

Sub Standard Hardware and Poor Customer Support
Pros: low price but that's about it
Cons: poor quality hardware, poor support
To add insult to injury they shipped the laptop back to me with the screen only partially reassembled and one of the screws cross threaded.
This is the worst form of customer support I have ever seen. I am so sorry that I ever bought a Dell laptop. I am even more sorry that I ever recommended their hardware to my customers and friends. No more Dell for me!
Be warned! If you buy a Dell expect poor customer service!

this is a family machine
Pros: For a family machine this is ok. I am not designing rockets or sending robots into space. I do have a five year old and the little guy thinks he's MSCE certified. So, if it gets fixed by him, well that's the deal. Meanwhile there are locks and passwo
Cons: I am not impressed by Dell customer support. A simple request for a recommended technician to assist with removing a screw on the memory slot (put in by a pneumatic high power shop tool) was transferred to sales who wanted me to sign up for $$$ repair pro

average, but barely
Pros: Low cost $700 after rebate as of 1/23/05. Got the bare minimum configuration (not many options provided), with a 1-yr warranty for $9 more. Performance is decent, but I was expecting better.
Cons: Must upgrade to max 512mb RAM, or else it really suffers, so I bought Dell 256mb for $47 and installed myself - easy. The screen has some issues, and the hard-drive makes an occasional "click" noise. The touchpad buttons feel a bit different than usual.

Now THIS I can afford!
Pros: WAY inexpensive ($600.29 delivered), Touch pad, Beautiful screen, Lots of USB ports, Elegant black case. Runs my current software really fast.
Cons: No volume control on the case. Tiny little power plug-in is hard to find without looking. No WiFi. Takes forever to boot with the bundled McAfee installed.

Get a laptop for a desktop price
Pros: I bought 2 of these for my teenagers. They wanted laptops and so in Aug 04 paid 799 and in Dec 04 paid 599! Somehow they only billed 563! I have a Dell 5100 and you can see this is more of a "no frills" model but for the price you can't beat it. So f
Cons: They do run a little hot but on the other hand so does my 5100. Get one of those laptop trays that have a little exhaust fan built in for $20 and it won't be a problem. The battery as others have indicated here is not the longest lasting but what do you

Don't let the low price fool you
Pros: The price: at $599, it's definitely inexpensive.
Cons: 1) Flimsy, plasticy case - Light pressure on the top of the laptop case casues it to actually dent inward. 2) Hard drive sounds - You hear ever sound the hard drive makes, and it also makes this really high pitched sound that I had never heard before! 3)

A Great Student Laptop
Pros: I got a refurbished laptop and it works very well with 512mb ram. Works great with Word and Internet. I use my cell phone as a portable modem, so I don't use the external wireless card at all. And customer service is Great, they replaced my scratched LC
Cons: 2 hour batt life sucks. Doesn't have built-in wireless card and cannot be upgraded to DVD-burner.

To Dell With This!
Pros: Good screen.
Cons: Well, first of all, as we all know, Dell support is terrible. The first one I had made a high pitched noise whenever it was running on battery. Then the replacement had the exact same problem. I am now looking for another notebook and am most likely NOT b

At that price, cannot be bettered
Pros: As a student- PRICE, paid only about £570. You may be worried about speed/power but for most applications the 1000 is competent. (And in terms of development I'm able to run SQL server and VS.net without problems). My desktop is also Dell and the support
Cons: The battery. I bought mine with the standard battery and it states 2.5 hrs for most applications; the most I?ve got is about an hour and forty five. Perhaps the actual lifetime of the 1000 will be short, due to the limited features (e.g. single card slot)

Good Laptop for the Price!!!
Pros: 3 USB Ports, 14.1 or 15.1 Screen, DVD/CDRW, 30 or 40GB Hard Drive, Wireless PC Card. Overally, good laptop for the price and with the free printer & wireless card its a good deal.
Cons: Standard Battery, Lacks PS2/Serial/Firewire Ports, Share Video, 7.2Lbs, 2.2Ghz Celeron slower than the mobile Celeron's in Toshiba, HP and Compaq. Mobile Celeron has better battery life.

Best thing you'll get for $700
Pros: This is an all-around OK laptop. Good enough for running all your programs and watching DVD's with no problem. Heavy, but carriable. Smooth, though not impresive, design. And, after all, it IS a Dell.
Cons: It gets hot, but put your backpack underneath it and you should be OK. Service could be better, but still functional.

Think before you buy
Pros: Has the essentials. Nicre screen size, simple design. It had all I need it an nothing else. Not an overkill system, right for the price. Very compact.
Cons: Within my 90 day waranty, I have send back the system 2 times for replacement. Screen went bad and then the keyboard went bad. Not reliable. I am in the process of buying a different laptop, probably not DELL. I used DELL for about 8 years now, and their

Pros: We wanted a laptop for the family to use, and we got the Inspiron 1000 for $800. It is perfect for e-mail, internet, and word processing. A quiet fan compared to my Inspiron 1100.
Cons: Can't play games, only got 256 mb of RAM so Fast User Switching doesnt work very well.

Cons: The battery life is horrible, we may have to get another battery. It is a pain to always have to drag the cord along to the different rooms of the house. The touchpad is not as responsive as on our old Gateway laptop, and the touchpad shortcuts don't al

Good enough for a laptop
Pros: I found this product to be esception for it's values and available upgrades. I payed 1069.00 for it with a RAM and hard drive upgrade and then recieved 10 percent off through DELL. It has behaved wonderfully. Works great esp. with high speed internet.
Cons: Somewhat on the heavy side, but it's no problem with a bag. May not be good for gamers.

Pros: Cheap. Fast enough for common apps. Minimalist.

Cons: Wireless card has poor range, battery life is short compared to older Inspiron models, no built-in floppy or serial port. Bundled software is mostly crippled or "lite" versions with limited features or an expiration date.

Got more than my money's worth!
Pros: Price listed at $674, but got it for $524 because of typo!! Couldn't beat the price for what you got -- CD-RW/DVD, built in network, wireless and modem, 40 gig hard drive, etc. Runs fast, holds everything I need it to! Runs hot, but get a "cooler" for it
Cons: Gets way too hot, fast! Heavier than I thought it would be. Battery that comes with it only holds 1.5 hr. charge ($75 for "refurbished" battery from Dell). Dell's phone support bites!!!!
