"For OVERHEATING comments how to solve"

    by maple3s on June 4, 2005

Pros: Keyboard, touchpad, screen, sturdy, easy to handle, good value

Cons: heavy, hot, the fan not enough

Summary: Shut down computer properly. Take vacuum machine and suck the dust from the fan openings out properly. Do it every 3-4 weeks. Then the fan runs slower and machine faster without overheating too much.
I am not from DELL. Otherwise great value, still after more than 1 year. If you don't care about the warm keyboad, then still a good value. Nice design, great keyboard and touchpad and screen bright. I would give it 10 but I deduct 3 points for the overheating problems, weight and thickness.

The overheating problem didn't go away but it staed here. I search internet. There was a lawsuit in the US for Inspiron 5100?? I believe. Dell lost the suit. (search Wikipedia for inspiron problems.) Users claimed their laptops are overheated. Similar lawsuit has been launched for Inspiron 1100. The case is that Dell knew laptop cooling system is not working properly but they continued to sell it. You might want to sign up with the layer for this lawsuit. In case Dell looses the suit, they will have to componsate the claimants. I think it's too late to sign as claimant, but you should know your rights agains Dell if Dell compensates owners. Search Google for more info. This suite is still running, started last year.

Only 1.2 years my dell inspiron 1100 was over hot and damaged CPU and hard disk. This is design mistake. So Dell stoped the produce.

to enhace dust removal, tape up all nearby apertures, (firsly blast rear outlet rad to clear)continue fitting and
shaping tape as required, leave rear fan/rad outlet open, fit hoover connection to round under side air inlet, tape round and generally make air tight, this is easy to do, this really does suck all clogging dust out, my 1100 now runs silent even when during heavy workings, no need to dismantle.
