"Very unsatisfied with this product" on by mbutler69

Pros: Cant think of any pros. Will never purchase another dell product.

Cons: They are very poorly put together, the plastic where the charger goes is cracked, and it only holds a charge for about 29 mins. Both screens have shattered just by closing them. Customer service hung up on us twice. Very disappointed.

Summary: My experience with Dell has been awful. Have had nothing but problems with both laptops. Customer service reps are very rude and uncooperative. I paid 250 bucks to replace a shattered screen that was not covered by the warranty and not even a week after I got the product back the screen shattered again simply by closing it. The screen on my husbands also shattered and the plastic on the side is cracked. Very poorly built. Neither of us have been rough with them, actually they never get moved and hardly get used. Customer service hung up on us after we spoke to several different people. We have had these for less then 6 months and have nothing but problems. We have also put over 1000 dollars into them and now one of them does not work at all. Awful product and awful service.

"Worst computer I've EVER owned." on by sbill

Pros: The computer looks nice and has a comfortable keyboard. It has a fast processor, powerful graphics card, and plenty of memory and hard disk space. It also has a DVD burner. According to Dell, this is supposed to get 3 to 4 hours of battery life.

Cons: Battery life was never that good. Sound is terrible. After 3 months, it started giving AC adapter error messages, and now it won't charge the battery at all. It still boots up when plugged in. Dealing with Dell tech. support has been a nightmare.

Summary: This computer is terrible. I bought it to replace a Compaq Presario 1700--which is almost 10 years old--and after owning this for 3 months, the Compaq seems vastly superior in every regard. The Compaq has a better body design, better keyboard, better screen, better speakers, and never gave me any problems. Oh, and one more thing. The Compaq still charges the battery and runs on battery power, whereas this new Dell can't even do that anymore after 3 months.

"Best computer I've ever owned!" on by jcvette315

    Pros: Lightning fast
    Sleek
    Versatile
    Customizable
    Easy to troubleshoot
    Fun

    Cons: Only 3 USB ports
    High Preformance mode eats battery

Summary: For it's price, the 1545 is an outstanding computer. I've owned several laptops and desktops in my time and by far this is the best. I work for my college as an IT technician and this laptop is my lifeline. It runs windows 7 great and is compatible with XP. It's lightning fast right from the get-go and I really had difficulty writing the con portion of this review because I love this laptop that much. Now, it's no alienware m16 or anything but it is a fantastic machine. I got it in black, but it comes in a nice assortment of colors. Hope this review helps.

"Disgusted with Dell computer and customer support." on by alicia12349913

Pros: if it would actually run, I could tell you the pros.

Cons: hard drive failure from day one.

Summary: Alright, lets start out with this, this laptop has never worked properly. It freezes when I start it and then I have to shut it down by holding the power button. When it does work, it freezes while I'm online doing homework which is unacceptable. I've never downloaded anything onto this computer except for itunes, and a few things from my online courses. So my computer wouldn't start up at all today, it just kept freezing. So I ran diagnostics by pressing F12 and it gave me an error code. The hard drive wasn't working properly. So I called Dell at 8:45pm , and they didn't want me to tell them the error code, they asked my permission to go into my computer and check it out. I agreed. This man told me that I had downloaded a virus. It was my fault and the warranty didn't cover this. So I told him that I was absolutely CERTAIN that I had not downloaded any virus, because this computer is STRICTLY used for school. He argued and continued to delete a bunch of my personal files. So I jumped onto my other computer and looked up the error code from diagnostics (the one that he didn't want to hear about) and I see all of these posts about faulty hard drives. So I start telling him this and he puts me on hold. I'm transferred to someone else, who says she is an advanced tech specialist. Okay after fighting for a while with her she agrees that its not a virus its my hard drive. She says she'll send me a new one but I have to pay for it. I said NO WAY. I still have a warranty. She fights with me for a while longer and I stuck to my guns. I mean hell no am I going to pay for a part that should still be covered! So she finally says, alright I'll send you one free of charge. She puts me on hold...FOR AN HOUR. Then what do I hear? BEEP BEEP BEEP. She hung up on me!! Are you kidding? So I call back. By this point its 10pm and I'm furious. I got a man and told him what happened. He put me on hold for a minute and then - BEEP BEEP BEEP I was hung up on again. This happened 2 more times. Finally I decided to jump online and do the online chat. They close at midnight so I only had 15 minutes at this point to get anything resolved tonight. Remember, this all started at quarter to nine. I get a woman. And right away she asks how she can help me. So I say "I've been hung up on numerous times, my computer has been violated, and I'm about to contact a lawyer if I don't get what I need. She says hold on so that she can review my call logs. She comes back almost immediately and says, okay I'll send out a new hard drive. SERIOUSLY? After telling her I was in love with her I made sure to email myself a copy of the conversation because you just never know with these people. None of the people I had spoken with would give me their ID numbers. When I asked one of them for his name and ID number he said, "don't worry about it, it's none of your concern." How can Dell get away with this? I've read so many reviews about how people are hung up on, or kept on hold for hours! Something needs to be done about this! I will never purchase a dell computer or recommend one to anybody. First they tried to blame me for the problem so that they didn't have to fix it, and then they hung up on me numerous times probably hoping I would just stop calling. I'm disgusted with dell. Oh and lets not forget, they are way overpriced.

    "Terrible computer" on by lobasister

    Pros: inexpensive

Cons: Crashes constantly, random changes to keyboard and touchpad, poor service

Summary: First of all, and least annoying, is that the case shows every fingerprint. Secondly, the keyboard is mapped in such a weird way that normal function keys used in Microsoft products do not work. They are randomly mapped to such things as mute (F7) and increase brightness (F5). When using the touchpad, moving up on a screen will increase the font size, moving down will decrease the font size. Most importantly, the system crashes with a blue screen multiple times a day. When I called user support, they ran 2 simple tests and told me I would have to reset to factory settings as the only solution. This in spite of the fact that the blue screen error dumps to disk. I suspect duplicate IP addresses as the root cause. I also complained about the keyboard and touchpad issues and was told this couldn't be fixed. I later found articles on the internet telling me how to fix both problems. I had bought the upgraded service option and this is the kind of support I got! You can find better computers out there for $600.
