"I have only had my Inspiron 1525 for 1 month and have already had a severe hardware problem."
Pros: A sleek easy to use laptop with strong specs.
Cons: I seriously question Dell quality control and customer satisfaction
Summary: After only 1 month of use, my laptop developed a severe problem and would not boot up. After several attempts by Dell tech support, they determined that my problem was a defective motherboard. A technician was dispatched to my home to replace the motherboard. However, the replaced motherboard was not NEW, but was instead refurbished. Wouldn't you think that especially since this is a brand new machine, Dell would ensure that the replaced motherboard was completely new. So I have another motherboard installed that has worn components which of course could themselves develope problems at any time----rather shabby customer service. I've used Dell products in the past and have been quite satisfied. With pressure from HP, Apple and others, I wonder if Dell isn't sliping from it's once lofty position in the PC world. This is one customer that will more seriously consider competitor products next time around.

If you do go to a competitor, don't choose HP .... just a word of wisdom from someone that knows (and experienced the same thing u did with HP).

Hi, I'm Dell-Robert_P with the community outreach team, I saw your post and wanted to make a quick comment. Just because a part says it's refurbed doesn't always mean that it's been used. Dell has hundreds of orders every day that are canceled during the build process and are never shipped. If the order reaches the end of the assembly line by the time it gets canceled, the computer is torn apart, and the parts even though they are brand new, are labeled refurbished. The computer may have been tested, but never was sent to a customer, and can not be sold as new.
Since your computer is covered by a warranty for at least a year, if you continue to have problems with it, regardless if the parts are new or refurbished, you can always call Tech Support, and they will gladly assist you again. Parts fail no matter who the manufacturer is, and while one would like a new computer to be without flaws, that's not always the case.
I've purchased a new car from a reputable dealership, and have had to have the transmission as well as the radio replaced. While I hope they replaced the parts with new ones, I have no way of knowing if they put rebuilt ones in or not.
Good Luck with your new computer, and if I can be of further assistance, feel free to contact me.
