"5150 is TERRIBLE - Official member of DMC" on by itcassy
Pros: might be good for 3 or 4 months
Cons: motherboard, overheating, hard drive, LCD
Summary: In 14 months, the hard drive failed, the LCD quit working, and now they tell me the motherboard needs replaced. So I guess I am a member of the DMC (dead motherboards club). Since I am 2 months out of warranty, there is "nothing they can do." They should be a more responsible company and admit that there is a problem with the machine. This is the best way to lose customers that I can think of. I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. If you are still in warranty, CHECK YOUR LAPTOP for ANY signs of slowness, battery not charging, LCD fading, or anything and get it FIXED!!!!
oh - and never buy another Dell! -

"Member of 5150 dead motherboards club" on by Forteblast
Pros: Great features, fast processing
Cons: Motherboard problems
Summary: I had mine for about eight months before the motherboard manufacturer defect made it such that it would shut down whenever I tried to move it. I was on the phone with Dell Tech Support for 45 minutes at least three times going through all the obvious crap I'd already tried before realizing it was really broken.
When they sent me the system back with a new motherboard, it kept giving me BSOD errors after 30 mins - several hours. Returned it again, and they gave me an Inspiron 5160. Who knows how long this will last? I got a 3-year warranty extension just in case... when it's working, it performs admirably! -
"Absolutely Terrible" on by Jardox
Pros: Good Battery Life
Cons: Overheats, heavy, burns out its motherboard
Summary: This is very likely the worst computer I have ever owned. Ever since purchasing it, I have had to have it repaired on average every 5 months. Overall, I have spent more in repairs than I originally did to purchase the unit. Each time I have had to replace the motherboard, the heat sink, and the fan, despite careful maintenance and transportation. There are evident flaws in the design.

"Don't get burned" on by ckammrr
Pros: Do you really want a pro? Ok.. ther grey and blue look nice
Cons: Lap burner and Motherboard flaw
Summary: While I have been, up until now, pleased with Dell overall, the 5150 is quickly changing my point of view. After about 18 months of at times quirky use, the motherboard died a rather quick and painful death (Yes, another DMC member). To compound problems, Dell's customer (*ahem*) service is, at best, a joke. I have spent hours trying to resolve the issue with no luck. The refuse to admit (with the exception of one tech) that this is a seriously flawed machine. I have many Dell's, but my last one will be my last unless Dell makes some serious changes and admits to a problem.
