Upside: The base model of the Dell Inspiron 9100 starts at $1,549, and you get a lot for your money: a 15.4-inch WXGA display, a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor, 256MB of RAM, a CD burner, and ATI's Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card with 64MB of memory. Upgrading to a higher-resolution, 15.4-inch WSXGA+ screen, a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 processor, 512MB of RAM, a version of the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 card with 128MB of memory, a 60GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and wireless networking will increase the price to $2,325, before rebates.
Downside: Don't attempt to travel much with the Dell Inspiron 9100 and its shoulder-straining 8.9 pounds. And while the price of the base model is decent, if you're looking for a cheap laptop, the Dell Inspiron 1100 sells for even less--$699, after a rebate.
Outlook: Dell makes some of the best desktop replacements, but even with its price and features, the Dell Inspiron 9100 will face stiff competition from other notebook makers, including Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba, Sony, and Gateway. Check back for a full review of the Inspiron 9100.

Great for graphics & movies
Pros: Fast with high resolution screen.
Cons: Fans kick on full speed and remain there after pc stays in standby for a long period of time. Found out from other web site that fans can be reset by hitting FUNCTION and Z key. It works! Hopefully Dell will get around to fixing this.

It IS portable! Great laptop.
Pros: I wish people would stop complaining about the size. Its big compared to what? Inspiron 8600 which is only 1 pound lighter? Or other smaller notebooks? If you cant handle 2-3 more pounds than a standard notebood well then.....Personally these 3 extra poun

excellent all-round machine
Pros: An excellent workhorse that handles all types of graphics intensive apps such as photoshop, autocad, and 3d studio. As a bonus, its eats up the most demanding games and begs for more.
Cons: None, I rather enjoy the "bulky" casing as it makes the machine look tough, as well as add to its durability

Horribly ugly. Pathetic screen.
Pros: I bought a 9100 with 15.4, 1.6m, 512mb and 60 gig hard drive and I sent back right after I opened the box.
Cons: One of the ugliest computers I've ever seen. It looks like it's from the mid 90's. There's a puplish blue keyboard cover that is so bad I thought it was joke. Performance was so-so. It locked up when I tried to install Adobe creative suite.

Its a Thug
Pros: It’s a thug and hooligan. I tried it, liked it and bought it. Mine’s was made in Ireland, ordered on the Monday and received it the next Monday. I know some of you guys have had problems with late deliveries, and I’m sorry for you.
Cons: The dell customer support have no idea of the customers needs. One word sums them up SH*TE

Grat Notebook, Horrible Support
Pros: Great notebook, love all of the features, great video card. Internal wireless Widescreen
Cons: The only bad part is dell not testing there product before they sent it to me. Out of the box problems: Power brick broken, something wrong with video card got bad fps.

Best laptop performer for the price
Pros: Wide screen 15.4" display makes everything crisp and clean. Super fast (3.2 GHz), internal wireless card is quick and easy to configure.
Cons: None, from my viewpoint. This laptop is heavier than most, but that is not a big problem, unless you're a wimp.

Meets expectations
Pros: I'm into the first few hours of using the 9100 after it arrived (2 weeks delivery time to Calgary, AB, Canada). I'd say it meets or exceeds every expectation I had. I started shopping for an 8600 and the price seemed very high after I selected all the f

Cons: The machine is big and the power adapter a "brick" as others mentioned. I had no intention of walking around with the thing so this didn't trouble me. What does trouble me is having the machine less than two weeks before it goes completely out. The Dell T

No-compromise computer
Pros: I ordered this computer in May and it arrived within a week. It's quite fast with a 3GHz processor, the wireless card works seamlessly, it's easy to hook-up to my TV and surround-sound stereo via composite/S-Video connections, and the Radeon 9700's video
Cons: Even with 512mb of RAM, a 128MB Radeon 9700 graphics card and a 3GHz processor, Far Cry doesn't run well at the higher graphical settings. The bundled DVD burning software won't convert DiVX to DVDs. This is a heavy computer and the AC adapter makes ann

DESKTOP Replacement
Pros: Very robust machine. Took 1 week from time I placed my order until I received the laptop. Took another 2 weeks to receive my rebate checks (Totalling $500). 2.8Ghz, DVD Burner, 60GB Hard Drive (7200Rpm), wireless networking card, XP Professional and 128Mb
Cons: None. Yeah it's a little weighty but I bought it as a desktop replacement so its what I expected.

Pros: I have had this 9100 for about 3 weeks now and it runs very well. Video and sound are excellent for a notebook. UT2004 looks fantastic.

Pros: Awesome performance I have the 2.8 HT with 512 ram and 128 video card with the 1900x1200 screen. If you want a desktop replacement that is portable this is the way to go. If you want something small and light buy something else. If you want uncompromis

Cons: Its big and heavy so if you want mobilty for school or work, don't bother. But as a desktop replacement, which is what the 9100 was designed for, it has everything you would want. Four USB ports seems like a lot but then you realize there is no PS/2 port

I love this machine. I hate the support
Pros: This notebook is everything I wanted and needed. I play games that are fairly demanding but not top of the line and they work like a charm. I got the upgrade to the 128 Radeon 9700. XP that comes loaded is so easy to use and convienient. My wireless setup

Cons: Its a desktop replacement. I don't travel, but I love using the Wi-fi and moving around the house. I don't mind the weight. The battery (12 cell that comes with it) doesn't hold up well with heavy graphics apps running. But hey, I just leave it plugged

Cons: Wait has been a month, but to be honest I started shopping two months ago and turn around for others like Alienware were also a month with a 15% restock fee for return and a hassle, $3000 is not what I care to spend for a product I have never used.I recom
