"Well equiped, excellent laptop for great price."
Pros: HIgh end graphics card, DVD burner, superb screen resolution, great battery life
Cons: No number pad (does that matter?), no integrated tv tuner
Summary: My configuration: 2Ghz, 2GB memory at 667MHz, DVD writer, WUXGA, 160GB hard drive at 5400 RPM, 8x CD/DVD burner, NVIDIA 7900 GS, 2 Nine cell batteries, Intel Next-Gen Wireless N with bluetooth, 4 year warranty
Paid about $2050, durine a Dell promotional period.
Overall, I love my computer. I have absolutely no complaints. In the end, I seriously considered buying this computer or HP's equivalent machine. My quick comparison guide is as follows. The dell machine provides a much higher end graphics card (great for vista), provides a better screen resolution (WUXGA), and provides better battery options. The HP provides a number pad in its keyboard and has an integrated camera.
I'm extremely glad I went with the dell. First off, I would never use a number pad on a keyboard. I'm not an accountant. A numberpad would just throw my hands off center to the computer when I type. And I would use an integrated computer camera even less. If I want to take digital photos, thats what I have a 10 megapixel camera for.
I do however, love the high screen resolution on my dell. I also love the high end graphics card. With 2GB memory and the graphics card, this computer runs vista amazingly well. My new computer runs much faster than my old laptop running XP.
And, as I said, the battery options are better with the dell. The 9 cell dell offers gives me somewhere between 2-3 hours easy when I'm unplugged. And with the second 9 cell battery I can double that to 5-6 hours. The HP gives you a 6 and 12 cell option. The 6 cell is just not enough for the dell or the HP. And who wants a 12 cell that sticks out of the computer. Very combersome.
As far as HD DVD goes, I realize that you can only get this option with HP. But its a very expensive option. When you upgrade the HP to HD DVD the prices of the two computers aren't in the same ballpark. Personally, I prefer blue-ray. The big price for the HP HD DVD wasn't worth it.
Last advice: hold out on buying your dell until a good promotion comes along. Saved me hundreds of dollars.
