"Heavy, big, rip off battery issues" on by philipwinfield
Pros: Big screen, peformance
Cons: Big screen and weight
Summary: I was asked before having a laptop what I'd like. I went for this with 1Gb RAM and the machine is fine. Hot on left side, great screen etc. But as a laptop, I'd missed the point that reading emails and using word does not require a big screen! I curse it when lugging it around airports etc but that is my fault, lesson learned.
I have an ancient Dell laptop I never used too. My kids play on it, the battery only lasts an hour or so, they gradually fall away in performance. Or that is what I thought until the D800! I left it on one night and in the morning the battery fault light was on. Battery fault I hear you say - surely not, they're a chemical thing, they just gradually become knackered? No, the clever electronics had decided I needed a new one and at 100 GBP I was not a happy customer. Beware. -
"PC is horrible" on by robho
Pros: Good Battery Life
Cons: Laptop feels cheap
Summary: Overall feel is not sturdy; very heavy; gets very hot so don't use on your lap; the plastic is not solid .. feel cheap; touchstick mouse is hard to use ..have to use a lot of finger muscle; infrared mouse gets in the way when trying to use the touchstick mouse; the space bar gets in the way when trying to use the mouse clicks below keyboard; the icons are soo small and if try to change resolution, it is blurry; 65Hz is the only option and gives you a headache looking at the monitor .. it took me a week to figure out how to add a custom resolution - tech support stated that it is normal to be at 65Hz - duh!

"Workhorse and Reliable" on by donaldlew
Pros: Large screen, stable operating system, never crashes, great wireless connectivity, HIGHLY RELIABLE, boots and runs without fail. This is not a fussy laptop and does everything a computer is supposed to do every time. Great Dell customer service.
Cons: Moderately heavy, battery life is modest between charging.
Summary: I like this computer because it is solid, reliable and does all of the things a computer should, including: Dead nuts reliability, well built and durable, speedy processor, multiple functions like solid wireless card, reliable DVD drive/burner, easy expansion capabilities like HDD expandability to 120 GB and 4MB RAM without excessive cost or complexity. The design and layout are superb and the execution build quality is like a proverbial brick s--t house. This computer has been in daily service since January 2004 as both a road warrior logging over a million miles in 3 years and as my replacement desktop computer with a Dell docking station driving 2 each Samsung 21 inch monitors that is used to manage my securities trading activities, email, spreadsheets and database. The XP Professional SP3 is feature rich and stable and bug free because of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition running MS Office 2003 and proprietary securities trading platform. This computer was upgraded with 4MB of RAM in 2006 and recently upgraded from 75 GB Hitachi HD to 120 GB Seagate HD. I could certainly afford to spend more money to buy more laptop computers with more 'features', but why is that necessary if this D800 reliably performs daily functions and gets the job done?
I recently purchased a used D600 for my wife to use as her daily machine to supplement her whiz bang desktop computer. She needs reliability. -
"A great laptop!" on by Delara23
Pros: perfect performance
Cons: a bit heavy
Summary: This laptop has not failed me once! it is a bit heavy but I use it for school and for work without any problems. I recommend it to anyone who needs a laptop that doesn't freeze and runs programs perfectly.
