"Had to replace hard drive, DVD drive, motherboard &more"0.5 starson by breazey
Pros: Comes in different colors, I love red!
Remote to watch DVDs
If you buy the full Dell Warranty, they are really helpful with problems
Cons: Fatal hard drive error only after one month of purchase
Replaced the DVD drive, motherboard, and memory chips within only the first year of purchase!!
Dell doesnt offer Windows XP with this model and Vista IS A HEADACHE!!
Summary: I bought this computer in the end of January 2008 and beefed it up since Im a graphic designer and I needed a reliable computer to use for telecommuting overseas for my job. BOY WHAT A MISTAKE!!!
In short, within THE FIRST YEAR, I've replaced the hard drive, DVD drive, motherboard, and memory modules, and still contine to have problems with no satisfaction from dell. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER! Or at least if you want a Dell, try to find one available with Windows XP becuase Vista is only a headache!!
So, as I said, I purchased this computer in the end of January 2008. By March... a little over one month after I bought the laptop, it had a fatal hard drive error!---ONLY ONE MONTH!!?? Are you kidding me??? Ugh, I had to reformat the hard drive and start over, losing vital information and DAYS of lost work, money, and time. I had to pay to get new disks of my computer programs sent out overseas, and had to re-set up my computer. I almost lost my job because of all the commotion.
Dell blamed the whole problem on Vista.
Things seemed OK, but I kept getting blue screen error messages (wasn't this a thing of the 90s? blue screen errors NOW is a bit old-school isnt it?), and other weird problems. Finally, about 6 months later, I accepted the computer's request to do some Vista service pak update, and upon returning to my computer later, there was a black screen with a line of code... and the hard drive was SHOT!
More days of work lost, time, money, frustration, and years off my life . . . Dell gets me a new hard drive... and new disks. Another whole headache of reinstalling windows, setting the computer up the way I want it, and move on with my life.
Three months go by with no problem, and then the CD/DVD drive/writer just decides not to work anymore. They replace that on the computer, but now I'm realizing I cannot plug anything into the computer via USB because it either wont read the devices, or the computer tries to format it. Other error messages, and Dell decides they are going to replace my motherboard and memory modules.
And so they did that . . . today . . and guess what? I still cannot read ANY memory drive, SD camera card, or memory stick without the damn computer trying to reformat them. My webcam doesnt work anymore either. The computer keeps shutting itself down randomly without any warning, and for no apparent reason. IVE HAD ENOUGH WITH THIS COMPUTER, I'm beyond frustrated and on the verge of insanity.
I got passed around to about 7 different people at Dell phone support, customer service, warranty support, technical department, and they dont want to help me. They said the ONLY way they can give me a total replacement is only if one component (the motherboard for example) has to be replaced 3 times within a month. ARE THEY KIDDING?? This is TOTAL BS!
What makes this incredibly sad and frustrating is this is my main mode of communication for my job (I telecommute) and I could lose my job from all the problems Ive had with this particular computer.
I used to be a HUGE advocate of Dell, but with this experience I'm no longer spreading good word of Dell products, and instead encouraging all to steer clear of Dell, and ESPECIALLY THIS XPS M1530 model!!!!!!
