"I really like this laptop, no regrets" on by shanrn1976
Pros: cheap, light weight, monitor nice & bright, easy to update
Cons: poor battery, terrible speaker (only one speaker), some small keys
Summary: I got this at walmart for around $500 and upgraded to the extra 512MB, targus laptop bag and a really nifty miniglow optical usb mouse. That stuff was another $100 or so + tax. Let me tell you that after I had purchased it I had regreted it and called walmart to cancel. Of course, it wasn't cancelled because it arrived at my doorstep in one day. So, I thought I would open it and give it a try. I could always return it, right!? Well, I was very amazed at the quality of this cheap laptop. I like the vista, keyboard and mouse pad. I will not be returning it! It has 3 usb ports, a dvd burner and not much else. This was all I was looking for, just something to surf the web with and do photo stuff. No major gaming or massive technical stuff. I upgraded the memory myself and I have never done anything like that. All you have to do is remove battery, unscrew, pop it open and place that card in at an angle and it pops in there. I couldn't believe how easy that was (even though I was prying it open with a knife "scarey" I thought I was going to break it). Anyway, there is no lag when running vista and the speed has greatly improved. I don't think it would be very good without the upgrade. If you compare this to other 1 GB vista laptops it's a great buy. I bought a small b-flex usb speaker for better sound. There are also 6 cell batteries which would provide better life, but I just use it plugged in most of the time so the 3 cell battery doesn't bother me. A few of the keys are smaller than I am used to, but I am sure I will get used to it. In summary, if you need a basic laptop (upgraded) and do not have a lot of money (like me) this is the way to go!

"Its a pretty good laptop in general." on by Skat15er
Pros: I bought this laptop for 200 dollars from a lady i work with. Its really not a bad laptop for the money and it has a dvd burner and the processer isnt really that bad either from what other people have made it out to be.
Cons: The keyboard and mouse is kinda close together and i touch the mouse pad sometimes on accident.
Summary: This laptop originally has vista on it but i wiped the hard drive and put xp on it and it doesn't run slow at all. I would recommend buying this laptop.

"Everex VA4101M Stepnote" on by chgirishcop1
Pros: For the price at the time I was thrilled! 6 months after purchase dvd went out, contacted support and they wanted me to send it to California. Decided not to and good thing, read they are no longer and website is not findable.
Cons: Todays standars for an extra $100.00 I bought a Acer due to a system crash with the Everex. No dvd cant boot from any other device. Unable to locate a dvd to replace old broken built in one.
Summary: Would go with another laptop for the price of the VA4101M

"This is the worst laptop I have ever purchased!" on by cabustamante
Pros: There are none.
Cons: Everything. This computer hasn't worked right since the day I bought it.
Summary: Started having problems from day one. Tech Support was of no assistance even under warrenty. 1 1/2 years later the computer doesn't work at all. Appears to power on but never loses the black screen.

"Piece of crap with power jack falling apart." on by cachecom
Pros: None - unless you like a piece of crap. The Stepnote power connector jack falls apart. Company claims they do not sell just the jack by itself. Compaq, Gateway, Dell, HP, all other venders sell replacement jacks. Not Everex
Cons: It was a fast computer that cannot be reasonably repaired without the correct power jack soldered to the motherboard!!!!!
Summary: You've gotta be kidding.
