"Great for the price" on by katherene_jones

    Pros: Cheaper than most computers

    Cons: Overheats - fixed

Summary: I have had this laptop for over a year which is longer than most laptops I've owned. It used to over heat and shut down, but I got a nice cooling pad and that fixed it. Also upgraded to Windows 7 and you can run XP mode on this laptop, it also doesn't over heat with windows 7 64 bit

"Inexpensive but unreliable." on by NWesterner

Pros: When it's working, Vista boots and runs with adequate speed. Out-of-the-box setup and wireless performance were fine. It's an attractive package and we thought the screen, keyboard, and controls were OK. Word, Excel, and Firefox run fine.

Cons: After two months of use, it looks like the file system and disk drive are already failing.

Summary: This notebook is a major disappointment. Reliability is poor even though we've always treated this computer gently and used a cooling pad. I sent my daughter off to college with this notebook two months ago and we're now spending many hours trying to fix it.

This notebook black-screened every couple days until we updated the BIOS. The machine still continues to un-sleep itself and crash intermittently. Two months later it can't even boot Vista without attempting heavy file system repairs. The Vista START button quit working, dozens of gigabytes of disk have disappeared, and Gateway support can't explain how to run CHKDSK.

I've had good luck, though, with other inexpensive notebooks running Vista. I'm looking for a replacement machine, but not at Gateway.

"great buy. not the best notebook out there but easily beats notebooks in its price range" on by bdog2be

Pros: Cheap can usually find it on sale. FAST!!! multitasks like a charm. decent at gaming (can play quake 4 on medium). best storage space for the price. love the shiny blue look. the list goes on...

Cons: none really. needs a bit more ram but thats upgradeable. case attracts a lot of finger prints. doesn't clean house.

Summary: this notebook was one of my best buys ever. i would recommend to anyone. for all those wondering about gaming its got a ati x1270(400mhz gpu & 400mhz mem) with 128mb video ram expandable to a gig. good enough to run most games that are a year old and some new ones too. i can usually squeeze three hours out of the battery on power save mode. but over all great notebook. feels and acts like something worth a couple hundred more. kudos gateway
