"Horrible battery life & constantly overheats/shuts down" on by wrightnotleft
Pros: Does everything I want it to WHEN it is up and running.
Cons: Overheats at the drop of a hat and shuts down constantly. Battery life is a joke.
Summary: Battery life is horrible; ventilating system is horrible as it constantly overheats and constantly shuts down to keep itself from frying.

"Great when it works, fails very often." on by Lifeson0
Pros: Very fast, great speed and processing power for a cheap laptop. great graphics and multimedia applications for the price range
Cons: Terrible battery life, lucky to get over an hour without the cord. Every 2-3 months something on the computer breaks down to the point that the computer has to be shipped back to gateway to be repaired.
Summary: I am a sophmore in college studying biochemistry and bought this computer because I needed a laptop to do schoolwork on and was low on cash at the time. I now am kicking myself for not spending the money on a dell or a mac when I had the chance. The best phrase to describe this laptop is "Great when it's working" Everything runs pretty smoothly until things start to fail. For me that occurred three months in when the computer's hardrive crashed. After getting that fixed everything worked great for another two months until the wireless card needed to be replaced and the battery stopped charging up. After sending it in for a second time, it worked well for another three months until, again, the battery stopped accepting a charge. After changing the power cord out the problem was fixed, for a month, then the problem reoccured. After trying a new power cord the problem was fixed again, for a week. Now the same problem has cropped up again. All and all I may have spent almost $200 in shipping costs and the costs for the different adapters on a $500 computer. The laptop has great features but I have found myself stuck going to the campus library and mooching off my friends computers in order to get papers and lab reports done in time because my computer was off at gateway getting repaired. Needless to say, I have developed a love for flashdrives thanks to gateway. This may seem like a bargin but what bargain there is is taken away by the costs of shipping this stinker back to Gateway and replacement parts. Don't get this machine. Don't buy from Gateway. Go for Dell or Mac. Don't make the same mistake I did.

"Overall I really like this laptop" on by kellydcarter
Pros: I got it on a great (clearance?) sale at Office Depot maybe 9 months ago. Has run great. Quite fast running Vista Home Premium. Keyboard is really nice. Widescreen display is nice.
Cons: Battery lasts roughly an hour even on Power Saver mode; I don't care since I rarely run on battery. Screen is a bit reflective, but I never notice that any more.
Summary: I have no regrets buying this laptop. I would buy another Gateway in a heartbeat.

"mostly good, but HORRIBLE battery life" on by oopsie913
Pros: LIKE THE KEYBOARD. iT IS VERY COMFORTABLE TO USE. fast browsing. clear graphics
Cons: truly the battery life stinks. barely an hour. keyboard area volume control hard to use
Summary: even sent it back and while gateway was very courteous and prompt, all they did was adjust the settings inferring that I didnt know what I was doing, I guess. It is a very nice laptop otherwise and the keyboard is comfy to use. I do not like the volume control tho, it is difficult to get the volume to move up or down. Just make sure you are close to a plug at all times with this. Price was great, though, 650.00 inc. mcafee, 2 year warrenty and micro student office at office depot. thanks
