"Great for note taking!" on by madchem

Pros: All the notebook features you need and want. CD burner, and DVD player.

Cons: It dose take a little time to start up.

Summary: I take all my class notes on this computer. The tablet feature is great and it learns your handwriting. This is the 1st lap top I've had so the wrist well dosent seem deep to me. I find it quite comfy. Some people dont like the hinge but I've had this for 4 months and havent had any trouble.

    Updated
I have now had the computer for eight months. I use it everyday and have had no problem with the hinge. I did break the screan and had to pay 500 bucks to get it replaced. The accidental protection is not avaliable in two states and I happen to live in one of them. But on the pluse side I mailed it off on the 5th of July and got it back on the 8th. Thats right, a THREE day turn around!! Not bad eh? I'm still very happy with my computer.

"Weight DOES NOT matter at all." on by magicboy

Pros: 2 in one, a tablet and a laptop. A tablet with a keyboard, great idea. There is a light adjuster to adjust the glare, whether you are inside or outside, or to save power. Nice slot for pen.

Cons: the voice recognition that came with this was not very good. I donwloaded some of my own and was happy. It should have come with screen covers.

Summary: I love my tablet. I have been looking at them for about 3 months and decided on the m275, i could not have made a better choice. I am writing all of this by hand right now! I use this in school all the time, I am a freshman in hghschool. I just took the rings out of an old binder and slipped it in there, since there is no typig and it's so quiet, none of my teachers noticed, all the kids thoguh were like, WOW, awesome! Built in wireless, so i got rid of my wireless card and sold it with my laptop. Truthfully, the weight doesn't really matter. I can easily hold in in my hand, and its much lighter than my old laptop. This really is a must buy if you are looking for a laptop, especially a tablet, there is nothing better.

"Stress Flaws, Large Screen, Good Laptop" on by blauvster

Pros: Large Screen, lightest tablet on the market for its screen size, Pentium M

Cons: Stress Flaws, Low Proformance Video Card, Shinny screen

Summary: I have 2 of these now and love them both. One is a 1.4GHz and the other is a 1.6GHz version and they both work great. A replaced the LCD bezel on one for around $40 and in the process epoxyed around the two screw holes where the stress fractures accured in the other bezel. I have had no problem since and have been using the new and improved bezel for about a year now. The screen is shiny, which is annoying when using it as a tablet and the sealing lights are shining in your eyes, oils stand out more as well, but when cleaned and when not being used as a tablet has the same effect as the glassed non-tablet screens, which were not around when I bought my first one and impressed friends. I have had one cdrom go bad and got a real good deal off ebay for around $20. The pens will cost about $25 to replace and do not have the eraser function that other stock tablet pens come with; the eraser from other pens does work on this tablet though. One of my other complaints towards this laptop is no external sound controler, so you better carry some headphones to class just incase you didnt mute it when you put it away last time. Can't really do much in the line of gaming since it has a crappy intel video controller, Halo and BF1942 push it to its max. CSS works pretty well, since it uses the CPU for most of its proccessing. this system works great to run dedicated servers on, like BF2. The speakers are deffinitly some of the quieter I have heard. I have never had any problems with the tablet functions. This tablet is the lightest tablet on the market that has a 14" screen, the screen is the exact same size as an 8"x11" piece of paper, so it really is like carrying around a paper notebook. Other than the things listed this laptop is great, I picked my second one up off ebay for $540 and couldn't be happier.

"Pleased with product features and quality" on by fishnetgear

Pros: Nicer display screen panel, faster hard-drive than Toshiba 4200RPM. Comfortable dimensions, quality audio, good battery life. Quality Intel subcomponents: Video, Network, Chipset, etc.

Cons: Pre-loaded with too much junk. System restore CD's are blank and you must back-up your HDD onto CDR. HDD partitioned unwisely.

Summary: They partitioned the HDD into 2 parts: 50GB for me, and 10GB for Gateway maintanence. 1/6th of the HDD space essentially hidden.

They also pre-loaded it with AOL, RealPlayer, and a bunch of unnecessary background tasks hogging memory and CPU cycles. I even found a foreign add-on connected to the Windows Update module.

I wiped out everything from the HDD before finding there are no system restore CD's. Not even a Windows CD. Apparently you're supposed to backup your hard-drive by yourself. The CD's they give you are marked System Restore, but they're blank. You need to make them yourself, and there's nothing to do a selective restore with if for instance one thing dies and you want to reinstall it from its original installation program.

So I simply repartitioned the hard-drive, reinstalled the whole OS and downloaded all the device drivers myself. The finger-pad driver, for example, hogs 10MB all the time with a system-tray icon and settings pages always resident in memory, so I used the generic Microsoft and Intel drivers as much as possible. I also removed any extra memory-resident utilities that the drivers tack on. Like, Intel has unnecessary wireless utilities and display adapter utilities always resident in memory - it's pointless for them to do that, you can load it on demand and it's much better.

So, after redoing the horrible Gateway system configuration, it ends up being a lean-mean racing machine.

The 5400RPM HDD is much faster than any 4200RPM that Toshiba offers, and the display is nicer. It uses high quality Intel and Microsoft components, but like I said it does not come optimized out of the box.

    "Good Product. TERRIBLE SERVICE" on

Pros: great all in one laptop. nice big screen, good table functions. Glass Screen.Great battery life.

Cons: Gateway's tech support is the worst! i have ever seen. 7 days after i got my tablet, the tablet feature stopped working. I sent it back to be replaced, it comes back with a dot defected screen. A month after many heated arguments on the phone, they repla
