"Strong when new, but cust service issues ruined it for me."
Pros: Lightweight, excellent screen, fully optioned out.
Cons: Weak screen hinges, major customer service pitfalls.
Summary: I purchased my M320X as a replacement for a stolen IBM Thinkpad T40. Initially I loved my new Gateway but was soon disappointed with its lack of durability.
In the first year, the screen hinges failed (allowing the screen to flop around), the hard drive crashed and needed replacement, the processor fan broke and allowed the processor to overheat, and the keyboard quit working. Two warranty repairs (and 2wks each) later it was back again.
Unfortunately, with each customer service/warranty call I was subjected to horrible, piteful customer service. My laptop was shipped (purchased directly from Gateway) without a serial number sticker. Gateway burned dozens of hours of my life on the phone attempting to figure out what computer I owned and whether it was covered.
The customer service agents were poorly educated on the product, rude and condescending over 3 different instances.
I have now sold my Gateway and purchased a new Thinkpad T60 and couldn't be happier. IBM/Lenovo's service is 100x better.
A for effort Gateway--the laptop was great when it worked--but the customer service killed my experience in the end.
