"Had to return -bad drive"
2.5 starson by wildmanbPros: Excellent sound, solid case, good graphics card
Cons: Hard drive was a slouch, poor screen quality
Summary: When I first got the notebook looked like a mac.( when I was using it people thought it was a mac). Hard drive locked up ran a slow 16ms, picture on video was blurry, and wasn't any faster than my aging Dell XPS extreme edition. Gateway wanted to send me upgrade drive, didn't want the hassle and would have cost me 150.00 dollars more.(isn't the drive under warranty?). So I sent it back and ordered me an new P4 Alienware notebook today. For a 7200 processer 80 gig serial 7200 drive and a 7900 gs video card, should be very fast. Ran like a couputer over 3 years old.

The Alienware PC, when fully loaded with components, will cost almost twice as much as the Gateway reviewed in this thread. To the average user, the performance gains of the Alienware are not significant enough to warrant shelling out the extra cash. Dont get me wrong, Alienware makes a great notebook, but you are comparing apples to oranges.

Alienware also charges over $100 for shipping last time I checked (OUCH!) and extended warranty coverage was steep as well.

I would have given Gateway a chance to make good on the drive issue. I do agree with you that Gateway should have absorbed the cost of the upgraded drive.

The hard drive may have been bad, but that's no reason to give it a poor score. A factory defect has nothing to do with usability or features, so don't bring the score down because of it.
