"Good laptop for the money"
Pros: - Screen looks pretty nice
- Runs pretty fast once the bloatware is removed
- Battery lifeCons: - Control key is misplaced
Summary: Its a good laptop for the money, Im just going to explain the cons that need to be explained.
- Touch sensitive volume controls are useless
- No feedback on the screen
- Bloatware annoying to get rid of
- Bluetooth key but no bluetooth
- The case smudges real easily
- I would have preferred more color options
My biggest complaint is that the control key is misplaced. The Fn and control keys are switched up so that the Fn key is on the end, all other laptops ive seen have the control key on the end. I know this may seem minor but its incredibly annoying to copy and paste but eventually youll probably get used to it.
Another complaint is that the touch sensitive volume controls are practically useless and a pain to use. i would have also liked some kind of feedback for the quick keys on the top to be displayed on the screen, fe- theres no volume indicator on the screen when you change the volume using the touch controls.
Everything else is pretty self explanatory in the pros and cons. There might seem like a lot of cons and not that many pros but overall its still is a good laptop.
Updated on Jul 27, 2008I forgot to mention that the speakers are pitiful (it was expected) also that the number pad (using fn buttons) doesnt seem to work. to my knowlege there is no number lock key on this keyboard to make it work.
Also i got this computer for 650 so it was a steal but for 799... im not to sure.
Updated on Sep 25, 2008Oh my, I just wanted to update this once again to show why not to buy this laptop. I dont know if its the laptop's cpu's fault or vista but it constantly crashes. Yes, I have no viruses it crashes most of the time when I close the laptop or put it in sleep mode.
I would strongly recommend that you get a better laptop than this one, you probably have to pay like 300 more but its worth it. Maybe its true i expected to much from a 700 gateway but I dont want my computer crashing randomly.

I had a problem with Firefox3. I installed and it worked great untill I had to shut down. when i turn it back on I got some boot error. The laptop fixed itself by uninstalling firefox3. My guess is that firefox3 is not compatible with the 64 bit OS. But is has ran lawlessly since that. Also I have a different processor. A t7500 rather that the original 5700. I came that way. Hopefully I won't have any problems with it. I've had good luck with Gateway products, lasted for years.

How does it Crash?
Do You Have to Reformat & Add Drivers(Loose Data)?
It Happened to Me and I Had to do Those Procedures(Lost Data).
Gateway Tech is Worth S----.
Less Knowledge than I Have(AV Systems Man).
I Believe it Crashed after I Installed FireFox 3.01or Quickbooks Pro2007.
I reinstalled FF(3.03) & QB2007 So Far So Good!
I Believe it's a Vista 64 Bit Compatibility Issue!

I've Never Had These Issues with My Macs(10.3- Toda!y10.5.5)!
