"Motherboard dies"0.5 starson by Dprof02
Pros: Great keyboard and form factor. Very useful with Windows XP. Excellent mechanical construction. Will miss it.
Cons: Motherboard dies after 18 months. Seems to be a common problem. HP will not accept machines are defective (see their web site). Repairs cost more than new machine.
Summary: The motherboard fried after 18 months of fairly heavy use (warranty is 12 months). All the machine does is blink the display. I removed the hard drive, copied my data to my desktop, and checked it thoroughly: it is working perfectly.
Since I use this machine a lot every day (for lectures and continuing education presentations), I need a replacement. I considered another HP Mini with similar keyboard and form factor, but cannot get myself to spend the additional $$ that these machines cost for another 18 months of use.
I ended up ordering a Toshiba Mini (much cheaper!), even if it comes with the lousy and crippled Win 7 starter. I will probably have to spend more $$ to upgrade to Win 7 Home Premium so I will have all the features I need.
This is the worst experience I have had with any HP product. I have a very old inkjet that I keep for backup that is still going strong, and a 6 year old laptop that is just excellent. I expected the same from the Mini 2133, and was sorely disappointed.
Bottom line: a frustrating and expensive experience, which has totally turned me off to HP computers.
