Summary: 1. AWFUL screen. LED-backlighted, meaning it will invert dark colors at any angle below the center, and will give no contrast for photos or movies. Only office work. Really. To have it evenly lighted you should look from above - then there is zero contrast - and if you want contrast and tilt the screen back, all upper half of it will be inverted.
2. GREAT battery life. Standard 6-cell battery gives me 5:55 minutes more after watching a half-hour movie with earphones and half-hour office work. Additional 9-cell battery will provide you with another whole day.
3. Good keyboard, almost Thinkpad feeling.
4. Disgusting sensor buttons - trying to hit F-keys, avoid even slight touches above them, or you will turn off your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antenna, bring up a presentation, etc. And F-keys are REALLY small.
5. CON: PgUp/PgDn are somewhere where you will never reach them, so you will have to use Fn-kursor arrows (two hands) or remap touchstick buttons to PgUp/PgDn or to scrolling (what I did, because I use touchpad mainly).
6. No volume wheel - only a sensor panel. Sleek looking, but we'd like to use it, not to look at it - and here's where the problems start.
7. Finally, Vista. Our local market is provided with only one model of 2510p, and that is with Vista. Lucky, MS give a downgrade option with Vista license, so you only have to find a distributive of XP Pro and you are settled - HDD is PATA, so XP installs without any problems. Still, HP does not provide any recovery disks - you have to install Vista first, create recovery disks yourself (2 DVDs), then install XP from your own distributive and say goodbye to the hidden recovery partitions (which is a good thing, since it gives you another 10Gb of space). -

Summary: Purchased a Dell XPS m1310 2 months ago; it was a piece of junk! It was only offered with Vista and blue screen crashed 13 times in 12 days. Dell had me reformat the drive, update driver, and nothing seemed to fix it... They had no solution so I returned for a full refund! I ordered this computer with XP and this is my second week using it! I love it! It is very portable! Extremely Long Battery Life. Yesterday it lasted me over 6 hrs and it had 40% battery life remaining before I charged (using the 9-cell batter). My girlfriend has the Dell d430 which is comparable to the 2510p. The dell has very poor battery life compared to this one and it doesn't have internal dvd drive!

Summary: I've been using HP professional series notebooks for awhile now (from the 6515b to the nc6210) and have been a notebook user for a number of years. The problem with many notebooks is that even if they are 15" or even 14", the weight of the notebook drags on you after awhile. So I decided to go with a 12" or even 13.3" to see if this class of notebook would offer a better sense of portability for my day to day work.
After reviewing a number of articles and coverage on different "ultra-portables" from different manufacturers, the 2510p stood out due to the fact that it was another in the HP professional series (which I'd gotten used to over time), and had a weight category that was very impressive (only 2.8lbs starting, without battery). What really brought me towards the decision of the purchase was the battery life: with a 6-cell battery I could realize over 5 hours lifespan without going back to the AC adapter.
Having used the 2510p for a few weeks now, I can safely say that I am satisfied with the purchase although there are a few problems I can see. For example, the notebook gets incredibly hot on the right hand side (close to the fan. This usually happens when I run video or 3D applications so thankfully most of the time the notebook runs quietly, and the heat level is acceptable. The fan itself blows towards the bottom of the case (not sure if HP did this because they didn't want to deal with a blower+heatpipe design or because a face-down face might run more quietly than a blower).
Another problem is that the notebook is somewhat expensive. I was able to find a good value buy from an auction site but this isn't a notebook that you can buy in any normal retail outlet, so you'll have to shop online. Lastly, there is a single tiny speaker (yes, only (1) one). The sound output is okay (plays videos and games with respectable performance), but its not exactly top of the line. For a small notebook like this, you really can't ask for much more though.
With a 1280x800 resolution and support for up to 2GB of memory and even a built-in DVD-RW (a really rare find in these smaller notebooks!), I think the 2510p was an excellent purchase for my business, and it'll be liberating to get rid of my bulky 15". -

Summary: My company issued this small HP computer to me three months ago and at first I was concerned about the smaller (12 inch) display size because I was used to 15.4 inch displays on my other notebook. Well, I needn't be concerned as the display is in fact excellent with tack sharp resolution and color saturation. The battery life is another feature that simply amazed me with always plenty to get through most of a work day on the road. At least 5 hours with a full charge on the extra capacity battery. As for size, although unit itself is compact and easy to pack in my computer case, this notebook has an excellent keyboard with large keys that are labeled with bright white lettering. It's not back lit, so don't think you can use it in the dark, but still the white characters are easily legible in a somewhat darkened meeting room. The slowish hard drive can be a bit bothersom because when doing automatic back ups of your work such as word or excel documents, its slowness becomes noticeable and annoying. But I realize that HP had to use this hard drive because it probably drains less battery power than some others they could have picked. Also, the single speaker on this notebook is located on the bottom of the unit. You heard it correctly folks. I think with all the design time that went into the rest of the unit, they could have done something more creative with the speaker location, and also put stereo speakers on the thing. But hey, this is a business notebook so they sort of scrimped on the audio. Altogether, with these small annoyances aside, this is a wonderful thin and light notebook that if you do much business travel to meetings and presentations, would be a near-ideal companion. Hence, my high rating.

Pros: pretty durable i've dropped it a couple times now, finger print scanner is awesome, somehow runs vista with only 1 gig of ram and still loads like a desktop.
Cons: no webcam, battery only lasts 5 hours, kind of small screen
Summary: a great laptop if you buy used and the price is right! Othewise, definitly not worth 1100 dollars.
