THIS LAPTOP IS AWESOME!!!!!!!
Pros: Widescreen 17", Lots of Memory, lots of harddisk, intergrated Wi-FI, Surpurb proformance, AWESOME price (at hp shopping), Sleek Design
Cons: All to be expected in a desktop replacement..... Runs Warm, Somewhat short battery life compared to Thin and Lights out there
This Computer is Awesome for movie editing in Premiere Pro which used to take HOURS, and the firewire port, and the 2.8ghz processor makes capturing DV film instant.
To settle all the conterversy on this computer's power needs, on MAX battery saving (Dimmed Screen, standard computing {no videos/games}) this comptuer can reach 2 hours of battery life. Watching a Movie it can reach about 1:00 off a DVD, however ripping it onto the harddrive is more power efficiant. Even though it has poor battery life, it is EXELENT on SPEED and GRAPHICS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

Good bang for the buck
Pros: good features, excellent screen
Cons: can get a bit pricey with proper upgrades
iv'e never tried a pentium m, but from what iv'e seen it looks like the pentium 4 HT is the better processor, it has a 800 Mhz Bus, compared to the m's 533. it also has a L2 2MB cache, opposed to the m's 1 MB - (or maybe even 500K) cache.
a must is a memory upgrade - in order to properly see the difference between this computer and a older one.
take my old Dell Dimension with 800 Mhz - it doesn't really run that much slower than my new computer which is supposed to be more than 3 times as fast, but that's because iv'e had 512 MB ram in my old computer for the past 5 years. so i would reccomend at least 1 GB RAM.
also it would be nice if they would offer a 7200 RPM upgrade option - which was unavailable at the time of my purchase.
Wifi is a must - power it up - you may never know how many networks you can have flying through your house - i have 4, and none of them are mine.
the fans are a bit noisy and the battery lasts for about an hour, the hard drive is also very noisy.
it's very cute that they put a seperate number keypad.
if your'e using a old printer with this computer, then you might want to use it over a network, as there is no paralel port and neither is there a serial port or floppy drive.
the speakers are nice but aren't quite as good as desktop speakers.
but this luxury ended up costing - not 1200 dollars, it costed 1450 and counting, i still plan to upgrade the memory and the hardrive, and upgrade to a dvdrw. so expect to pay somewhere around 1750 for a 'dream system'

Great desktop replacement- so far
Pros: Well, I have had this unit for 48 hrs and so far its been everything I expected. Like the other user mentioned here look at this PC over the HP ZD7000 or 8000 or any other 17" laptop. Yes it was cheaper as I saved over $200 to the HP with the same custom
Cons: none so far.
