"great laptop for the right price" on December 10, 2008 by outkasts

Pros: very light weight and nice looking. It comes with a build in web cam and a quickplay remote.

Cons: startup is kinda slow. With all the pre install software. But you can have it removed.

Summary: I just bought it for like 4 days and I'm already having issues with this thing. yesterday the USB couldn't read the USB ports and my mouse stopped working on it. I unplugged it and plug it back in tried three different mouses and all I get on the screen was USB Device Not Recognized????? I plug in my Ipod and it works? what's going on? so re started the laptop for at least 5 times and did a system restore now it works again. The very first day when I got it the quickplay touch volume control on the top was muted I couldn't get any sounds I try to fix the problem by re starting it and now it works again. So the bottom line is it seems to have issues with the volume being muted, and USB not recognizing the devices.

"Hard Drive blew out in 48 hours" on December 27, 2008 by sublime33

Pros: Easy to understand set up instructions.

Cons: Hard drive blew out in 48 hours. Customer service helpful in the diagnosis but very frustrating when deciding whether I should replace the hard drive (you have to do this yourself) or return the laptop to the retailer.

Summary: Hopefully my experience was a fluke.

Update - Received replacement hard drive, then found out in the enclosure that you need a system recovery disk to get Windows. I could not make a recovery disk because the original hard drive was defective. So I had to wait for HP to send me recovery disks, and they used regular mail, not Fed Ex. Three days after installing the recovery disk, the mute button got locked and would not disengage. Contacted HP, they referred me to three websites to download BIOS system updates, and now the entire machine is a black screen. I opened the PC on Christmas, it has been functional for 5 days (it is now Jan 10) and I have to wait another 7-10 days to ship the laptop back to HP so they can fix it. Oh, and after installing the system recovery disk, Microsoft Word will not register because the serial number does not match. This has been a fiasco.

Pros: -Great size...
-LOVE THE FINGERPRINT SCAN!
-Love the touchpad lock button
-Glossy Screen

Cons: -Battery Life too short
-Powerbutton gets stuck- Touch sensitive pad is falling off
-Glossy keyboard
-Cannot run Windows XP
-Hate Power adapter plug!

Summary: The list explains EVERYTHING. The laptop is great for video gaming, and Vista fans, but If you are constintly on the go, may I reccomend another laptop. This laptop has A lot pf bells and whistles, but you need to have a heavily padded laptop case. This laptop is too fragile for the traveling High School or College student. I have to say, it was and still is treating me well!

Pros: Multiple options great for travel

Cons: My hard drive went out after 6 weeks of purchase. HP told me that I must send my laptop out for service. Eta time 2.5 weeks. The battery life is poor - I am very frustrated with my purchase.

Summary: I would not purchase from HP again - please read all reviews prior to purchase. This is the second review with a hard drive proble.
