"Extremely competent -"
Pros: Design / Power / Sound
Cons: Trackpoint & Keyboard not as good as Thinkpad
Summary: As a long-time Thinkpad owner (at least 5 over the past 7 - 8 years), I've always felt them to be the 'gold' standard. With the sale to Lenovo, I wanted to stay with a US company - one with a business notebook with all the features I wanted. This HP / Compaq fits the bill - T2600 processor, 80 GB 7200 RPM drive, 15.4 widescreen - @ 1920 x 1200 (yes, you CAN read it!), and 256 MB dedicated video card. What's left? Oh yes - a fingerprint reader for security.
Yes, it doesn't have the greatest software suite, but that's not what I was looking for. What is has is good battery life (even better with extended battery - the two combined can give 6 - 8 hours of life), great specs, and excellent features.
It's not cheap -- but this notebook - properly outfitted -- should be able to give many years of solid service.
Only negative for me is the 'less the stellar' keyboard & trackpoint -- but I've managed to adjust.
