"Nice Laptop, but runs HOT" on by rlivesay1
Pros: -Excellent price
-Very nice screen
-Good working keyboard, feels solid
-Pretty decent low level gaming
-Hard drive and memory easily serviceable
-Bluetooth
-Good battery lifeCons: -Runs very hot
-Touchpad gestures and scrolling unresponsiveSummary: I got this laptop for only $403 after tax by dropping down the HD size to 250GB, saving $50 as I plan on putting in an SSD. I pretty much needed a laptop for web browsing and some schoolwork and here the laptop does not disappoint. I never notice any delay and watching HD movies on Netflix and Hulu work well with no noticeable stutter. World of Warcraft also plays well, albeit on low settings, but at least you can definitely do some gaming if you wish.
As the summary suggests, this laptop runs VERY hot. I did not expect this at all as this is supposed to be a low performance CPU. Even just simple web browsing with this sitting on your lap will cause the fan to spin up and become uncomfortably warm, forget about watching movies or playing games. Also, the touchpad, at least for me, is very unresponsive when it comes to scrolling down web pages. The two finger swipe needs to be done at least twice before it may decide to scroll, while enabling the right side of the touchpad for scrolling works better, but not much.
All in all you pretty much get what you pay for and cannot expect too much from a laptop costing only $400 as this handily beats anything I have seen in that price range. So get a USB cooling mat and attach a mouse for extended periods of use and you have a very nice budget laptop. -
"Repeating trackpad issue, avoid this product" on by randomclick
Pros: very nice form factor and battery life.
Cons: This product is simply not working. The trackpad randomly and automatically left click by itself, sometimes issued multiple left clicks. When typing, the worst case is it will highlighted a block of text and then deleted it.
Summary: I have to disabled the trackpad then typing anything.
On the phone with HP support over 3 hours total, repaired and replaced the trackpad twice. Escalated to the case manager who asked me to send it back again.
The worst is that the case manager literally told me that they will keep asking me to send it back until my warranty is expired. And he has no supervisor. -
"Cheap construction. HP dodge warranty obligations." on by yeatsc
Pros: Good idea, lightweight, compact
Cons: El cheapo construction, dishonorable warranty service tactics.
Summary: Never again. Complete waste of money. Penny wise, pound foolish.

"Amazing Laptop!" on by jamieshilling17
Pros: Really fast at doing multiple programmes at the same time, good sound due to having Beats Audio and good webcam. Overall a excellent laptop!
Cons: Has IE9 already installed which is the worst IE so far! also kind of annoying when you want to insert a disc and then remember there isnt a disk draw so have to use the external disc reader!
Summary: Brilliant Laptop, shame about IE9

"Contrary to CNET's opinion, this is so overrated!" on by suzy-x
Pros: -Battery life
-Weight
-SoundCons: -Delay in typing
-Gets way too hot, even with CoolSense
-It has SO much bloatware, but even after removing most of it the machine still runs slow.
-Graphics are terrible, video gets choppySummary: I travel quite a bit so I needed a little computer to do on-the-go writing and light Photoshop work. After reading mostly good reviews about this computer I thought it was worth a shot, but it wasn't. Granted, I got mine refurbished, but WOW what a piece of junk. Also not as light as most netbooks/ultrabooks these days. It's probably worth it just to save up for a pricier, more efficient machine.
