"Cool looking excellent laptop"
Pros: Way cool to look at, sturdy and quite powerful
Cons: Shiny screen reflects light
Summary: Had this machine for about a month. It's very good, though I always get good results with HP laptops.
LOOKS
The thing looks great: no black plastic and sharp edges here. Everything is smooth rounded metal with a hefty feel. Has a row of bright blue LED controls for the media (DVD, etc) along the top that saves manually opening Quicktime and such, though it's easy to hit the very sensitive buttons and have the machine think you want to play a DVD.
x64 OS
I have the Vista x64 version and it is really fast, even though I don't have any 64 bit apps (uh, who does?). Some problems getting drivers, couldn't find an Oki driver that works for one of my printers, and had to use substitutes for my HP printers which is odd since it's an HP. But apart from that, I'm very pleased with compatibility
COST/VALUE
Picked it up at Best Buy on sale, so I got it for around $900 with tax which is a great deal IMO. It replaced a four-year old HP Pavilion that cost over twice that.
SHINY SCREEN
The only thing I have a problem with is that the screen is very shiny and it reflects background light a lot. I set the nVidia control to high brightness to compensate, but I'm guessing I'll get lower battery life. DISK
Vista is a hog, of course and takes a good sized chunk of the otherwise adequate 250g drive, but with $50 USB drives at 1/4TB, I'm not concerned.
SIZE/WEIGHT
I like the 14.1" sized screen and, while the machine might be a few ounces heavy, it's lighter than most of my other laptops and pretty easy to schlepp around.
SUMMARY
All in all a really nice machine from HP. Gets quite a few comments on looks and performs great.
