"Great computer, but after 4 months had take it back." on by boulderer
Pros: Great purchase, fast computer, good for use with pictures and video....love the media card reader.
Cons: After 4 months the sound on CD's and DVD's got choppy when used with Windows media player. It still worked with the quickstart feature (plays DVD's without booting up the whole computer).
Summary: Would recommend this, assuming this glitch doesn't happen to anyone else. The quickstart feature is great for watching movies on the go. I'm glad I bought the protection plan.

"AWSOME Bang for your buck" on by Brumerland
Pros: great screan, great picture, great ports, good for gaming, and very user friendly
Cons: average battery life, nothing else to complain about
Summary: Im accually tying this review on the dv4000 right now, and it is working great. I am a avid gamer and i was sorta disappointed to hear about the shared memory, but all my games play great on this laptop. I am also going to school and will be using a wireless network, and the second i turn on my laptop it connects to the internet. I really like the optional DVD remote to, it allows me to watch movie from a distance. All and all i really find this laptop to suite Students, basic gamers, and the averaige traveling office worker.
Hope you found this review to be helpful

"portable enough - performance outweighs weight." on by gv381622
Pros: fast, quiet, keyboard comfty, cool speakers, nice screen, plenty of ports
Cons: video card is pretty weak, touch pad kind of annoying, could be smaller, lighter,
Summary: overall pretty sweet, my config is 1.86 pentium M, 512 1 dimm, 80 gb 5400 rpm, 12 cell batter (lots of weight, but about 6 hours battery life, it's huge though), seems pretty nice, keyboard is nice, quickplay is cool (plays dvd while the pc is off using a unix program), it's not super portable and super light, but if this is your only computer (don't have a desktop)this should cover all the functions of a desktop and the portability of a laptop, so for sure get this one. you sacrifice weight for performance most of hte time. great deal at hpdirect, a lot of glare on the lcd screen if you're outside, otherwise it's perfect. hope this helps.

"Got the X700 card" on by togus
Pros: Great value
Cons: battery life
Summary: This machine is far and away the best value in a 15.4 with dedicated graphics and a PM 740. The X700 card makes all the difference and my Dv4000 plays high end 3D games with no problems. the machine is light, fast (Pi to 2m. took 1:45) and runs cool. Great screen, I like the glossy option. Wireless is strong. This box is all about value.

"Brilliant screen when viewed at correct angle." on by izzybit
Pros: Easy wireless functions and nice performance over all.
Cons: A bit slow with a 4200 RPM 100 gig Hard Drive.
Summary: I have a full Gig of DDR Ram so operation is quite good over all. The keyboard is firm and smooth. Right palm brushes touchpad when typing, but it can be disabled in the control panel. Caution: After you do this you must tab around and arrow key to the mouse functions, but the only way to reselect the touchpad option is to hit enter when the default button is highlighted. (Or use a USB mouse to do it.) Solution would be an on/off key like some of HP's other models have. I was originally looking seriously at the dv1000 series because of the weight, but am now glad I have the ultrabright 15.4" screen. I even lug it 3 miles to the local cafe and back at 7.5 pounds, but not a real big deal with the nice Targus case I got for it. I shopped around for months and am happy with this. It looks great and works super over all.
