"Vista is too much for this...And what's with the battery?" on by John_in_PDX

Pros: Fast with XP, looks cool

Cons: Slow with Vista, Battery issue

Summary: Being a system Admin, I quickly took an image of the default drive (preloaded Vista basic which is sooooooooo slow) and then installed and tested Windows XP Professional. With Windows XP it's a different story. It runs very smooth and quick, which tells me that either the driver set they have for Vista isn't mature or Vista is a Memory hog (or both). Not to mention that 512MB just isn't going to cut it anymore. I purchased an additional 1GB of RAM.

Although I am quite impressed with the XP install, the battery only worked once for 2 hours after full charging. Now the battery is staying at 0%, even though I've had it plugged in for 3 days. Not a good sign. I hope this is just a "one off" bad battery situation as I do like HP equipment. Maybe that's why they were so cheap.

"At least it looks nice" on by mserica513

Pros: The look, the feel, the remote control, the screen size

Cons: the software, the speed of the processor, the amount of memory included

Summary: we got this on a saturday, that evening it ran SLOW! like wow, brand new laptop this slow? geeeeez.. maybe its just Vista basic, lets upgrade the memory to 1.5 gig (it comes with 512) STILL SLOW.. we took it back. after 3 days of use IE would not open more than 3 times and I would have to restart to get it to open those 3 times. Everything i tried to do stopped responding. Networking this thing with XP is a horror(upgrade to premium its better than basic) but the hardware on this thing has some flaws, i understand vista is new but it should still work!

"Faulty components / no customer support" on by arturod58

Pros: Nice look and feel, good CPU.

Cons: (1) Keyboard keys kind of flimsy, some keys break.
    (2) HP Pavilion with NVIDIA chipset - Video portion fails prematurely.

Summary: Warning! There are major problems with the complete line of HP Pavilion with NVIDIA chipset's.
HP knows about the problem (check out the forum on HP?s web site) but they continue to sell these pieces of junk without providing support.
If you have one of the HP Pavilion DO NOT install the patch NVIDIA recommends, this patch only forces the cooling fan to run continuously which delays the eventual failure (past warranty) of the video portion causing the laptop to become useless.

Quote?s form Class action law suit. (Line 24 & 25 of page 6)
? ?the NVIDA GPUs is not robust enough to withstand normal operation?
? ?HP Confirmed the NVIDIA GPU Defect in an Internal Investigation?

Basic response from HP when notified of the failure past warranty, enjoy your brick and thanks for the money, sorry can?t help you without a large expense on your part.

    You have been warned!

"Pretty good for the price." on by Tabnkim

Pros: Nice screen, decent graphics. Functionally it was nice until the motherboard faded out.

Cons: Had to upgrade memory from 512mb to 2gb. After two years my motherboard pretty much died. Fell just out of warranty so HP was gracious enough to offer $280 to fix it. That's a little over half what it would cost for a brand new better laptop.

Summary: I guess you get what you pay for. To me it's not really worth fixing since you can get a way better, brand new laptop for a little more money. I just wish HP had a little better support.

"I do not have any problems with this product" on by jltodd

Pros: Had this system for quite some time, upgraded the memory, no problem installing software, ( games, software development, business tools, etc.). Hardware no problems, battery good, take it where ever I go.

Cons: mine didn't come with a web cam.

Summary: Bottom-line, I do not see why other people have a problem with it, get a system that best fit your needs, this one fits mine just fine :)
