"Bad BIOS means system not cheap." on by arc630
Pros: Affordable (?)
Cons: Unreliable system
Summary: After 14 months of coddling (docking station, home unit, separate cooling fan), my laptop failed to power up. I had to spend $400 to replace the motherboard. A few weeks later, HP owns up to a BIOS problem, which would cause a power failure on the unit. I have written to ask, not for a refund, but just for the $400 I shelled out for repairs. This info is for several dv6xxxx and dv2xxx pavillion models.

"HP Pavilion DVxxxx with NVIDIA chipset" on by arturod58
Pros: Nice look and feel, good CPU.
Cons: Keyboard keys kind of flimsy.
HP Pavilion with NVIDIA chipset - Video portion fails prematurelySummary: Faulty components / no customer support
Warning! There are major problems with the complete line of HP Pavilion with NVIDIA chipset's.
HP knows about the problem (check out the forum on HP?s web site) but they continue to sell these pieces of junk without support.
If you have one of the HP Pavilion DO NOT install the patch NVIDIA recommends, this patch only forces the cooling fan to run continuously which delays the eventual failure of the video portion causing the laptop to become useless past warranty.

? ?the NVIDA GPUs is not robust enough to withstand normal operation?
? ?HP Confirmed the NVIDIA GPU Defect in an Internal Investigation?
Basic response from HP when notified of the failure past warranty, enjoy your brick and thanks for the money, sorry can?t help you without a large expense on your part.

"Good Deal for HP" on by TVExpert
Pros: Great styling and excellent screen. Many features and options. Solid performance, less glitching. Outstanding Webcam.
Cons: Processing is relatively slower. Vista Aero was not equipped from the store.
Summary: I bought this laptop last August (2008) and has worked excellently. I used to have a Gateway laptop with the Intel Duo, so it is slightly slower and can't multi-task on the exact same level. Overall this PC functions well with DVD and CD burning, web surfing and word processing. The Web Cam on this HP is three times better than the one on the Gateway I used to have. I also just learned to equip Vista Aero a few days ago. LOL Aero made this PC 200% better.
