"Not a good computer" on by onecrazytaz
Pros: The size of the screen.
Cons: Numerous problems.. First the power supply blew up, HP supposedly repaired, only to find out that they messed it up worse than it was. Had to send it in again. Messed it up again. Then Hard Drive blew up. Getting through Tech Support is a nightmare.
Summary: Trying to get tech support in the United States is a challenge. Finally found a number to the corporate office of HP in California. After many discussions about their customer service and inadequate products, and the fact that my computer is less than 7 months old they agreed to send me a new hard drive. I have never had so many problems with a computer!! Only buy this product if you like problems and enjoy dealing with incompetent people that treat you like you are an idiot!! Get a clue HP before you end up with more lawsuits!!

"The HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx is a piece of garbage." on by capesquirt
Pros: Nothing!! But maybe it would make for a nice frisbee for my dog...
Cons: The speakers are barely audible at max volume and have really bad sound if you can even hear em. The keyboard can disappear if the lighting is not good. No supporting recovery software or rescue dics and snotty touchpad.
Summary: I really dislike the HP dv7-1245dx notebook. I bought it as HP said it would run a flight simulator game well and it fell way far short of that. The graphics installed was far less then HP promised with this machine. Also the HP installed software is useless, such as HP Advisor and health check just takes up space and is annoying as those things always run at start up and I have not yet been able to uninstall em. Useless... The machine always runs hot and consumes much energy. The touchpad is really,,really sensitive and if not careful just the heat from your fingers can cause the pointer to skip around the screen and often click on something you did not want to or cause you to lose your work. If ya have this machine please use a remote mouse. Well,,in a nutshell,,I,m really less than impressed with this machine. HP did not market it as it really is. I would not advise buying this product unless you just want a improvised or basic word processor.. Yeah it has 4 g's ram but the processor can't provide enough power to use the ram as it should.. Just not a good deal.. I used to like HP.. Not so impressed now!!!

"Several flaws that the lab should of caught" on by blite1
Pros: Good monitor for the price. I can run numerous programs and web pages at the same time and it runs fine. Sleek look
Cons: 1. The speakers.
2. The keyboard.
3. Internal heat level.
4. The backlit keyboard.Summary: 1. The speakers are bad, the lack of a decent sound system for an "Entertainment" laptop is irresponsible marketing.
2. The keyboard is bad. It is so much flimsier than my previous hp laptop from 2004. If the light level is low or lights off you cannot see the letters/symbols on the keys.
3. The laptop doesn't get real hot the bottom. But the heat through the keyboard and touchpad is really bad. Sometimes the heat from beneath the touchpad feels like it could burn my finger if left on the pad for more than 10 seconds.
4. The backlight on the keyboard for volume, mute button, touchpad activator etc.. cannot be turned off. The reflect on the monitor and is really annoying when you're watching movies.
Again all of these should have been figured out during lab testing and pre sale testing by their review board.
The fact that it is marketed as an Entertainment laptop and the speaker quality doesn't live up to the billing is more than upsetting. I realize that it is towards the lower end of the in the series but it should have better quality speakers than my low end hp laptop from 2004.
I've had it for 1 year and 4 months. I have been moderately satisfied with the exception of the obvious flaws that any testing lab would have noticed. What really concerns me is the amount of heat released from the top of the laptop. That makes me think it is ruining the longevity of it's internal system components It's not like I'm covering the fan's vents, the heat on the bottom is within tolerance levels. Since this doesn't appear to be just my unit from reading the other reviews this seems to be a big flaw with the model itself.
I give it 2.5 stars because it has functioned for the most part moderately well although I do feel deceived by the lack of "Entertainment" quality speakers. The score is a little lower also to the big concern about the heat level within the system that is not going out through the unclogged fan. -
"Last HP I ever buy." on by agwarfel
Pros: I liked the screen size, the mouse pad that turned off and the HDMI port.
Cons: It comes with Windows Vista, it heats up way too much, I had to keep it plugged in constantly because of the low battery life then the screen developed a flicker and if I was lucky it "worked ok" with screen brightness at a minimum before going out.
Summary: Do not buy this product.

"NOT WORTH THE MONEY!" on by jayswifeyy
Pros: big screen, numeric keyboard, lightweight for large laptop
Cons: speakers, cant see keyboard in the dark, ac adapters and batteries suck, keys break easily and are expensive to replace seperately many more....
Summary: I got this laptop less than a year ago and I have already had to replace a number of things and being that I bought it refurbished HP would not cover any of them. (although it was supposed to have a 1 year warranty) First, I went through about 4 ac adapters that I bought from the HP website. I dont know what the problem is but for some reason everytime I would plug it in the laptop would short out the plug (it even sparked once). HP did nothing about it and more so blamed me. I noticed that the port where you plugged the charger in is loose which is probably causing all this. I finally took it to best buy and had it fixed and have had no problems there since ($160 later). The webcam keeps conking out on me, not working at all so I have probably reinstalled the driver about 12 times. I tried turning my laptop on one day and it wouldnt come on until it was plugged in. Well about 3 hours later I unplugged it to take it to work and it shut off. The battery died out of no where and is completely shot. It will not hold a charge at all so now to use the laptop I have to keep it plugged in and if you even bump the cord it shuts off and I loose all my work. Now the keyboard....Ugh! I was typing a proposal for work and out of no where my "c" key just popped off! It wasnt loose or anything! Then when I took it to best buy to get it checked out (because u cant just pop a key back on like u used to be able to) the tech barely even touched it and the "R" and "P" popped off too! Best Buy wanted $200 to replace the entire keyboard or $60 to replace the three keys seperately! My CD/DVD drive never worked and neither did the remote control that came with the laptop (even after changing the batteries twice). The stupid thing freezes all the time too, I got this pc so that I could take it to work with me and continue what I was doing instead of saving and trying to pull it up at work but in the end I am still in the same boat because the damn battery is shot! If Iwould have known this was going to happen I would have just stayed with my deskktop!! After spending $475 on a refurbished laptop I ended up spending almost as much in repairs in less than a years time! I will never buy a HP product again, the quality is just garbage now! I am going back to Dell.
