"What Does It Do? How Well Does It Do It?" on by [RR]Macavity

Pros: Better performance than some of the more expensive Pavilions for a lower price.
It doesn't come with a whole bunch of unnecessary programs and "features", leaving more hard disk space for the end user.

Cons: Vista wasn't completely set up, nor was HP Total Care (I had to set both up myself).
A bit boring to look at.

Summary: I evaluate everything I buy based on two criteria:
What Does It Do, And How Well Does It Do It?

    What Does It Do:
For me, I needed something I could use as a mobile communications system (and, to a lesser extent, a mobile entertainment system). With a practically-empty hard drive, I have more than enough space for the communications programs I use and the games I play.

Since I have yet to encounter a wireless-N network, wireless-N capability is unnecessary for me. (If, however, I do wind up encountering them, I can always buy a wireless-N USB dongle.)

How Well Does It Do It:
As a mobile comms system, the only thing that could beat this would be a netbook (but those are practically dedicated to communications to begin with.)

It may not have the specs of higher-end entertainment systems (such as the Gateway FX series or the Falcon Northwest Fragbooks), but it runs the games I like very well.

Additionally, the movies and TV shows I've watched on it have looked just fine. Frankly, I can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p video, nor do I see much difference between standard-definition DVDs or Blu-Ray discs except when I'm within 1-2 feet of a large HDTV (and who's going to sit that close to a television anyway?).

    So, bottom line:

What Does It Do - Serve as a mobile comms/entertainment system.
How Well Does It Do It - Very well indeed, especially considering the price.

"Nothing but trouble, do not buy this laptop." on by paul2525

    Pros: Nice screen

Cons: Overheats despite replacing fan, power supply and upgrading BIOS
    Very short battery life
    Constant problems with onboard microphone

Summary: Had problems within 6 months of purchase. Laptop was running hot all the time and occasionally froze. It finally crashed and I had to reset to factory settings, causing loss of all data on the hard drive. HP support honored the warranty and sold me extended coverage, since I assumed this was not the end of my problems. I will not purchase another HP laptop. In this competitive market, there are plenty of other brands to try that are at the same price point.

    "Amazing Paperweight!" on by Ariannehall

Pros: Lightscribe, number pad, screen size, WiFi

Cons: overheats, poor battery life, short life for model overall

Summary: UGH!!!! I had my last laptop ( a Dell inspiron) for 9, yes 9, years, while I did upgrade and replace certain things, it lasted. I bought the HP G60-445Dx as a replacement and have had numerous issues since I opened the box. Light scribe worked alright for a while but I was definitely not impressed and shed no tears when that stopped working. A Sharpie is faster anyway. It came preloaded with entirely too much junk software and "free trials" of games and uselessness. After about 2 month the battery life began to dwindle and I noticed a marked difference in the heat output. I purchased a laptop fan and made sure the fans/vents were clear. I even went as far as having a professional open it up to make sure everything was in order. Having found no dust, debris or pet hair and checking the motherboard and processor and finding nothing unusual it was given the all clear. The laptop continued to gradually lose battery life and the heat output increased as well. Once I began having start up issues and random crashes I once again took the laptop to my computer whiz and after a thorough inspection was told "I can not, in good conscience, give this back to you" He went on to explain that not only was the battery shot, but there were motherboard and processor issues, on the upside all the vents and fans were clear and operating wonderfully. Luckily, I have a very respectable and trust worthy tech I take my computers to who is not only concerned about his business but my safety. He is not charging me for the time he spent working on the laptop(5 hrs) and is only charging to transfer my files to DVD until I receive my new tablet.

Needless to say I am highly disappointed in HP and do not recommend this to anyone!

"Basic Computer with terrible battery life" on by ChickenChasr

    Pros: Good speed

Cons: Less than an hour battery life
    Extremely poor gaming capability
Overheats like crazy. On my 3rd fan
    Not for constant use

Summary: I would not recommend this laptop for anyone who wants to use it for anything more than office work, movies and internet surfing. There are extremely few games that run smoothely (atleast for 20 min after the laptops starts overheating). I would suggest spending a extra few bucks to invest in a better laptop if you can afford to.

Pros: -I mean, it works. Plugged in.
    -Good Graphics
    -Internet works good
-Not Slow, most of the time.

Cons: -Battery dies within an hour. It's never had good bettery life from the moment i got it
-Overheats every time i use it!!!! If its not burning my leg off its shutting off completely!
-Cord fits loose into computer. Buying a new cord did not fix problem.
    -

Summary: I would not reccomend this computer to anyone. Newer HP models are good but this just sucks. I regret buying it.
