Pros: Unusual combination of features, stunning screen, full keyboard, fast, slim, respectable speakers, great battery life, large touchpad
Cons: Power input on right side, no line-out jack (just headphones on the front)
Summary: This laptop is the dark horse of the HP line. It has since been discontinued since I bought it nearly a year ago, but that doesn't mean it wasn't amazing. Very unusual to find a 15.4 WUXGA display on a laptop of this "thinness". The 64meg ATI Radeon can handle what I throw at it...but this was not meant to be a gaming laptop. Six hour battery life is phenomenal when I'm undocked. The laptop runs very quietly. The downside is the poer input on the right side which affects how far you can move the mouse. The laptop is very fast with the 1.7Ghz Dothan I chose for it. Definately worth getting if you can find a used one for cheap.

Pros: Perfect keyboard for my big hands. Performance dwarfs Apple/Dell/Sony for price.
Cons: Little heavy, not as sexy as the Powerbook, no longer available on HP site
Summary: I was a skeptic about the ZT when I first saw it. Since I bought it last fall, and formatted the HDD to rid it of the HP extra-ware, its been flawless.
I was surprised that it was taken off the market because of the dv1000. I saw the dv at Fry's and its way too "bling" with lights and buttons for me.
The wireless is great, and the stability is excellent thus far. I am a business school student and I travel for work and this computer does it all.
Only grips are that its a little heavy, the chassis isn't an "eye catcher" like the Powebook, and the fan is a little loud.
I clocked this laptop against my custom 3Ghz with Corsair LL RAM and its comparable in performance.
If you hsve really deep pockets and are obsessed with asthetics, buy the Sony or Powerbook. But if you want a great laptop with a great screen and a hearty feel, get this.

Pros: Cheap, Good Screen, Lightweight
Cons: Poor USB Management, Unstable Wireless
Summary: I bought this machine about 8 months ago because it was a very good deal and had decent ratings. While the machine is not terrible, I would definitely not buy this machine again.
Performance is pretty good about 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time, I am busy rebooting.
The machine suffers from apparently poor management of USB ports. Once a device is plugged in, the port will recognize no other device until reboot. This is even after releasing the port through the management software. A trememndous pain for anyone who has more than 2 USB devices. (You mean I can't have an mp3 player, camera, printer, AND jump drive? I have to reboot when synching my palm? Oh that's fun...)
The other problm is the stability of the wirless connection. No matter what wireless network I'm on (school, home, caribou, panera, the library...), my machine randomly decides to lose the connection every couple of hours and list the connection as disabled. It will refuse to reenable until I reboot the machine. It is NOT a network problem, no other computer in the room will do this.
So, why do I give this machine a 5 instead of a 3 or some other horrible score? Well, because when the machine behaves, it runs extremely well (and it's cheap) and when it is connected by an ethernet cable and not via wireless, there's no problem with internet connections, ever. So if home use on a wired network is your cup of tea, it's still a pretty good deal. Otherwise cross this machine right off your list. -

Pros: Large screen, wireless capabilities, wonderful sound, front loading SD card port
Cons: Only 3 usb plugs, short battery life, touchy touch pad.
Summary: All around, this is an awesome laptop. Not perfect for a desktop replacement, but great for any student going off to college, or someone who needs a laptop with which to travel with.
It's lightweight and compact design are amazing once you see all the features that are packed into this:

Easy 1-touch volume and mute controls
Scrolling touch pad mouse

This laptop is very lightweight, and extremely quiet. Can never hear it running at all, even in a completely silent room. Battery life is so/so, only lasts about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, short of HP's claim of 4 hours, but not too bad overall. -

Pros: Does everything & never dies
Cons: Wish it weighed under 5 lbs
Summary: I bought one in 2005. Loved it so much that I went out and found a 2nd one that was used for my husband (only option - they stopped making them by then and we wnated the laptops to be identical.)
Both were upgraded to 2 GB RAM from the standar 512.
We don't do games or other things that are very demanding.
They work fine, never quit in 3 and 2 years respectively, and just keep on going with very heavy use.
It weighs in at about 6+ lbs and I wish it were under 5 lbs since I have trouble lifting/carrying more than 5lbs after a permanent shoulder injury.
HP has good support - you can still go to their website and download all the manuals and specs - unlike IBM, Dell or the others who don't even give you that info when the product is brand new.
For what I need a laptop to do, it IS perfect.
