"Best laptop for students...ever!"
Pros: 12 cell battery, 1gig ram, 100 gig hard drive, beauty!
Cons: NONE! (Well speakers seem tinny, but who cares?)
Summary: I researched my first laptop purchase until they all seemed the same. I almost switched to an iBook just to get something different but changed my mind based on the compatibility issues that are inherent with a MAC. (Mac users-stop tryng to change my mind!) I'm not sure what criteria CNET actually uses besides unhelpful things like reports regarding the difference in miliseconds between processors etc... For my money I needed something that could handle Office, some language translation programs, my camera software, hold LOTS of pictures, store LOTS of music, be able to handle 5-10 programs running at once, and run wireless internet fast and seamlessly. I am so glad I bought this machine! I think the AMD Turion is an awesome processor, the ATI graphics card is awesome, and I haven't even started to make and edit movies yet. This one is actually lightweight and portable, and the ultra brite widescreen makes watching movies in the Student Union a real pleasure. In other words, if you are thinking about it BUY IT! Compusa had this one on the shelf and totally loaded for under $1400.00, cheaper than the HP site, but order from HP if you have to.Updated
Well, I am past a couple of months with this machine and still completely satisfied! No buyer's remorse here, and HP is a much better company than I thought. I've heard all the techie complaints regarding "COMCRAP" etc... but I have experienced none of what I was told to expect. Great laptop, wonderful update service for my specs, everything just great. I have yet to find a feature that I have a problem with (except the speakers, but it's a laptop-so I bought some really nice headphones). If you can still get this, buy it!

I purchased the L2000 about 2 months ago and wanted to wait to give an un-biased review (after the "new toy" feel went away
First, NO other computer on the market offers the Turion processor with a decent graphics card. With that said, Im a senior Electrical Engineering student and I needed a machine that can handle my intensive applications and this one does flawlessly. I can run memory intensive applications while listening to music and havent had it freeze on me once. I can even play Doom 3! I compared laptops on the market for 3 weeks before buying and no other one has the features that this does for the money, its a crisp beautiful machine and Im lucky I found it in my searches. Definately get the processor battery, memory, DVD burner and monitor upgrade. You wont regret it. I travel often and have had my computer run off battery for 5 hours without having to recharge. I only have one complaint, there is no monitor driver update since 2003 (the only thing this affects is the max refresh rate) but I havent encountered a problem yet. The speakers sound good, It was designed EXCELLENTLY! Im spoiled now from the layout - the keyboard and touchpad are awesome compared to others Ive used and the flash card reader along with the quick launch buttons will quickly grow on you. I cant use anyone elses laptop anymore.
If you buy this computer:
- Get rid of Norton and use McAfee or one of the others on the market
- Bare Bones it (there are alot of background applications that arent necessary)
- Get the latest video driver updates from ATI
- Enjoy it, its awesome!
