"My IdeaPad is way sicker than ur netbook."

by damienDis on January 2, 2009

Pros: Easy to replace the HD and install an additional 1 or 2GB of RAM. Vista HP loaded easily on the D partition, after installing mobile 945GME drivers, video memory went from 64MB to 256MB. 'Veriface' from Lenovo, face recognition log on, it's sweet

Cons: Bluetooth doesn't work on XP but does fine with Vista. If you dual boot and find problems with Synaptic errors on Vista, install the Synaptic drivers for the Y430. 4 way scroll function is stable again. 'Easy Capture' on Vista records great video

Summary: I almost couldn't wait for one of these toys and almost commited to an ASUS 1000 series - the wait was well worth it. My S10 fits in my leather folder, the slim external DVD writer from LG has Lightscribe, and is about the size of 3 CD jewel cases... the face log on is great, I just trained the internal mic for Vista's voice command program. ... a 6 cell battery is available from Lenovo online ... Office 2007, Photoshop CS2, Flash CS3 and FL Studio 8 all run without any problems or lags. I have to admit, there really isn't anything I can find to fault the S10 with - it's ultra portable and perfect for any student's desk, first time 'surf-n-email' users (your grandparents) and the very discriminating urban technocrat .... big thanks to ASUS for initiating the net-book wild fire - super thanks to Lenovo for keeping it so cool and tight - like Hancock said, Good job guys, Good-Job

Excellent review! Thank you! I'm so excited about purchasing one! I'd like to upgrade the hard drive to a Solid State hard drive though. Do you know if I will be able to do this? I am an IT consultant and am so ready to get rid of my heavier, bigger and worst of all power hungry tablet pc. Thank you for your review!
