Summary: Unlike the U110, whose keyboard layout we found to be a bit slippery, the U330 has a firm, responsive keyboard. It is nearly identical to that on a ThinkPad, which is a good thing, but the business-like layout clashes a bit with the surrounding glossy ...

CNET product brief
Description: This configuration of the Lenovo IdeaPad U330 is a 4.4-pound, thin-and-light notebook computer.Compared to other thin-and-light notebooks on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $1,050.The 13.3 inch widescreen has a native resolution of 1280 x 800, which is fairly standard among laptops.Built around the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.This notebook has a 250GB hard drive and 2 GB of memory.Features ATi Radeon HD 3000 series graphics with 256MB of video memory.
Pros: Has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450/ Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chip, which is somewhat better performing than some similarly priced notebooks. The built in Bluetooth connectivity will let you pair headphones or sync your mobile contacts.Includes an HDMI port so you can easily output the notebook's audio and video to a compatible TV or monitor.
Cons: Has a 3.7 Greenpeace 'Guide to Greener Electronics' manufacturer rating (Nov 2008), which is considerably less favorable than some similarly priced notebooks. For example, the Toshiba Sattelite Pro U400-S1301, a 4.4-pound notebook at around $1, 005, has a 5.9 Greenpeace 'Guide to Greener Electronics' manufacturer rating (Nov 2008.)Also, this notebook has only a 13.3-inch screen size, which is smaller than some similarly priced notebooks. For example, the Dell Vostro 1310, a 4.6-pound notebook at around $1, 130, has a 13.3 screen size. The fair battery performance of this notebook means it has to be recharged more often than other notebooks in its class.Shared video memory has an adverse effect on system performance which may be okay for users with more modest graphics needs.Users with more demanding needs should look to a graphics solution that brings its own muscle.
Suitability: Suited for those who want a balance between power and portability. If you have a wireless network at home, wirelessly browse the Web from any room in your house with this Wi-Fi enabled notebook.Enjoy movies while in transit with this computer's DVD player. With 256MB of dedicated video RAM, this machine will do a lot better than most other notebooks when it comes to multimedia applications and games. An anti-theft security tether can be fastened into the built-in lock slot.
Value: In view of its relatively inexpensive price, this notebook has great features for the money.
Suggestions: (1) Given this device's Wi-Fi capability, you may want to get a wireless access point for your home, so that you can browse the Internet more conveniently from any room.(2) To get the most out of this laptop's Bluetooth capability, you could have a Bluetooth-enabled headset, handheld or other device, and be able to link it wirelessly to your computer within a range of 20-or-so feet inside the same room.

Thin-and-light laptop computer
A thin-and-light laptop computer offers the optimal combination of portability, performance, features, and cost. Power-tuned mobile processors deliver enough power to keep you working smoothly, and unlike ultraportables, most thin-and-light laptops have a more reasonably sized keyboard and display, a larger hard drive, and a built-in optical drive. Yes, they're more expensive than slightly larger, heavier mid-size laptops, but if you need maximum productivity in a portable package, this is the best choice.
