"Worst notebook I have ever owned"

by dobbst on February 3, 2007

Pros: Battery life and screen resolution

Cons: lack of peripherals, poor sound.. read on

Summary: The #1 reason why I dislike this notebook is when you use it on your lap(I commonly use it this way when stopping at airports) and you ever so slightly bump or rotate the notebook, everything on the computer stops for 3-5 seconds. If you are watching a movie file, dvd, listening to music, or even viewing a webpage and you nudge this computer, I hope you have a few seconds to spare. This becomes very very frustrating when it happens EVERY time that you move. (Just in the time that it took to write this paragraph, it has frozen 3 times)

Moving on.. This notebook lacks a few features that are found on other similarly priced laptops such as a dvd writer, higher quality speakers, fingerprint reader, higher ram, etc..

So in summary, If you only use this notebook as a "desktop" computer, then by all means concider this as a purchase. But if you are on the move please heed my advice and look elsewhere.

The screen resolution is a "pro" in your opinion? The 1024x768 is a grandpa resolution. The video card on the crap machine is so old that when you connect it to a modern widescreen computer, it doesn't even give you the option of upscaling so you see a black border on left and right. And the 512MB of RAM is a joke.

uhmm. your no1# reason requires you to call the service center. Anyone in there right mind would not expect Lenovo to make a portable device that can't be shaken.
that's just generic to being portable. there is a need on your part to think over your comments.

The starting and stopping you're describing sounds a lot like the Thinkpad's active hard disk protection, which freezes the disk when it senses motion. This is a great feature as it can save your hard drive if your laptop takes an unexpected tumble. And if you find it annoying, you can click on the appropriate icon in the system tray and either reduce the sensitivity or disable the feature completely. Again, this is a great feature that can easily be disabled when you want.
