"Outstanding Value"
Pros: Great specs for the price; large screen; and great connectivity ports
Cons: Weight and Size
Summary: The SL500 offers outstanding value for money. If you are after a 15 inch screen, reliable business laptop (i.e. no gaming) that performs all tasks well - the SL500 is by far the best choice..
I have had a T40, T61 then the SL500. I've decided to stick with Thinkpad for its no-BS reliability. Obviously, the SL500 is the cheapest out of the trio, but in terms of value for $$, it is also the best.
The SL500 is quite strong in terms of features and specs. Mine came with 1.8G Core2 + 3 G Ram and Vista Home Premium. I have used it for various daily tasks for the past month. so far it has performed very well.. Unlike the T61 which freezes ALL THE TIME ( i.e. twice a week) the SL500 has held up very well over the past month..
the screen size was one of my main selection requirement,, I'm very happy with the bright 15.1 inch screen.
I have also had some contacts with the Lenovo customers service,, my experienced with them has been very satisfactory. They resolve the issue quite efficiently and didn't charge anything for the additional services.
To sum it up, if you want a reliable big screen laptop mainly as a substitute to desktop and you don't mind the weight, as of 25th Dec 2008 for the amount of $$, there are no better alternative than the SL500.
