"lemon not remedied in timely fashion"
Pros: form factor, security system
Cons: performance of the one they sold me
Summary: I bought this machine as a replacement for my 4 year old T23, and it ran noticeably slower. Booting the system took 7-8 minutes, and launching programs would take 20-30 seconds for apps that took half that on my T23. It was clear that the problem had to do with disk performance - during these slow boots / program launches the disk access light was constantly on, and I could hear the disk grinding away (and occasionally making odd sounding noises). I went round and round with IBM tech support, rebuilding the whole system and reinstalling my apps, running antivirus scans, defragmenting the disk, and finally ordering a replacement hard drive, only to find out 2 weeks after ordering the hard drive that it was back ordered and they had no delivery time frame. At 45 days into owning it I finally lost patience trying to solve the performance problems and asked for a refund - which took escalation through three levels of managers because they claimed I was past my 30 day lemon refund period (which I was assured would be ok by the tech support person who logged the initial trouble ticket, since I reported the performance problems and started trying to solve them the first week I had the machine).
I've always liked ThinkPads but I'm giving up on IBM after this experience.Updated
One additional comment on my review: I purposefully bought the fastest disk IBM sold for this machine (7200 RPM), because I knew disk performance was important. Paying extra for the fastest disk and then having such pronounced disk performance problems was very frustrating.

I too am having problems getting lenovo to exchange the lemon they issued me. Two weeks into ownership, the systems board was replaced. Since then (now owned computer for 3 months), they have replaced the hard drive, the optical drive, and the internal speakers. Also, they will replace the replacement systems board tomorrow. Any suggestions as to how to make them exchange on the no lemon policy? They are refusing because it has been past 30 days of ownership.

My T43 had the EXACT same problem! It both made a noise when the video was working and was VERY slow... I quickly called sales and told them I wanted to refund and get a get a Z60t instead. I just got notification today that it has shipped (about 1 week!). I am pleased with Lenovo's customer support. They allowed me to return it (they paid to ship back) WITHOUT a trouble ticket ID because I nicely explained my situation.
