"Thank god for no wide screen" on by deecee

Pros: An actual 4:3 screen ratio

Cons: None yet, but we will see

Summary: One point I have to stress is I absolutely hate the stupid 16:9 screen ratio in a business laptop. I want a 14.1 or 15 inch 4:3 ratio screen, and less and less laptop are available in that form. I don't need to watch DVD on my laptop, I need to see more excel cell up and down as well as side to side, and I like to see a few more linex of context in my word document!! So the birds with the 16:9 screen ratio, at least Thinkpad still recognize there're business user out there need as high a resolution in as small a form factor as possible, and wide screen laptop are crap on airplanes too!! Thank goodness there're still "tetro" style 4:3 screen ratio laptop for poeple who actually work on their laptop instead of using it as a DVD player!!

The T60p is out of production but I can buy one with the Core2Duo 2,33 Ghz, a large harddisk and an SXGA-screen of 1,400x1,050 for 450 euro. What should I do: buy it or not? I'm used to a precious T43p with a 15-inch UXGA Flexview screen.

I had a dell XPS something with 17" wide screen, totally hated that thing! I mean it was virtually unusable as a laptop, slowed me down completely, I just cant work on it. I've used it most of the time w/ an external 1280x1024 panel. Very very very lame! I will never buy a widescreen again. It made a very good an reliable desktop though... lol<br><br>Anyway, I was inspired enough to buy the T60 15" FlexView when it was available on lenovo's site back in May. Totally love the thing sometime I use it without even plugging a mouse in (of course that definitely slows me down). So I have to say it's not just about the screen, Thinkpad is the best laptop I ever had, all my friends love it, and it's a very hard to find one also <img border="0" src="http://www.cnet.com/i/mb/emoticons/happy.gif" alt=":)"><br><br>But I hope it does not stay that way. I really hate that Lenovo discontinued the 4:3 Flexviews. For now they finally have the 14.1 XGA on the T61s which is good, so I'd still choose it over any other widescreen laptop, but I really love the FlexView 15" SXGA+. 15" SXGA+ without FlexView it's a little hard to work on. And having a smaller res also makes it hard. So it has to be 15" SXGA+ FlexView.<br><br>And please no replies from people who don't actually work on the computer.<br><br>And so that all you widescreen kiddies know, 15.4 is actually 14.1" regular only wider, 17" wide is the same height as the 15". So it's true, 15" regular is much taller than the 15.4". When you actually try to work on the computer you'll find that it's important to have a a high enough vertical resolution without the pixels being too small. As for the text mode, wide totally sucks.

I have a widescreen laptop for work, and it's definitely inferior to the older aspect ratio. I am surprised by the popularity of widescreens - you have to scroll vertically much more. I have heard good things about Lenovo; I will look more closely at the T60s. I hear they still offer Windows XP, which is greatly preferable. My geek friends who have tried Vista have ended up returning their computers after hours of frustration.

...For home users who:<br>Watch movies<br>Play Games<br>...and NOTHING ELSE.<br><br>"Jarringly retro" or not, I'd rather a 4:3 screen to a 16:9 any day. My HDTV is 16:9 and that's wonderful. My laptop must not go wide. Thank you Lenovo for the ONLY descent 4:3 laptop left on the market. PLEASE keep making it in 3 years when I need to upgrade my T60P.

I am in the market for another laptop and am stunned by how few choices there are in the older screen format. For those of us who use it mostly for business (especially word processing), the widescreen format is dismal. <br><br>I am in the process of returning a laptop that I thought would be fine (had all of the bells and whistles), but the screen was so noxious to me that I am sending it back. Have been eyeing this ThinkPad and now am more sold on it, even with the price.

I have recently returned a Dell D620 that was fully loaded to my sepcifications due to my severe dislike of the widecreen display. I need to see spreadsheet information like other business users and do not play DVD movies on my laptop. <br><br>After my breif encounter trying to use the Dell D620 widescreen I will avoid ALL widescreens in my eventual replacement of my crrent laptop (Gateway 20ARC) which has a "tall screen" 4:3 aspect ratio 14.1" screenn that I need. The Lenovo THinkpad T60P is on my list for that reason.
